I have decided that I am going to do a dream costume to do list for the new year. Meaning that I am going to assign one garment to each month and I am going to have to at least start it in that month. I figure that it will kind of be like a costume specific New Year's resolution. I hope to do more than 12, but since I am starting with nothing I figure that it is going to be a good start. I haven't quite decided what it is going to be on it yet, but I wanted to invite everyone to join me in the costume a month club and make up your own list of 12 garments for 2008. It can be as specific as "a white peu de soie silk 1810 gown with pearl beading and gold tambour work embroidery at the hem" or as vague as "a cloak". If everyone plays it will definitely give us plenty to talk about here. I will post back later with my list.
ETA: I think that if you make a list and then you want to change something on it you should change it by the month before.

Okay, what I'd like to make this year: 1 A cap and bonnet 2. A nice afternoon gown with the drop-front pattern. 3. A new Spencer that I actually like 4. A shawl 5. A really fine ballgown 6. A greatcoat for my husband 7. A new tailcoat of a better pattern than the Wingeo. 8. A new waistcoat for him as well. 9. A new pair of breeches in better fabric and with working buttons 10. The net over-dress/pelisse for my white dress. 11. A lovely reticule that matches everything (I know, I'm ambitious 12. A beret or turban.

Have you assigned them to months yet? I am still working it out. Trying to plan according to the potential ORS events. I am going to have two things for every month probably since I am starting with nothing and would like to have a foundation for a nice working wardrobe at the end of the year. So that way 2009 will be a much more mellow year for building up my accessories and doing more ambitious projects.

Well, I'm not going to plan for teas and such, I'm just trying to create a versatile wardrobe where I can mix and match elements. I will however have a new dress for February, that's as far as I've planned. If anything, a pelisse or overdress for my white gown, but I want a longsleeved gown with possibly a nice patterned fabric. I'm stoked, my Period Impressions drop-front gown pattern arrived.

I will have to hem and haw and figure out which one I'm going to make... Bagatelle or Impressions? Hmmm... Which one is less daunting?

I will however have a new dress for February, that's as far as I've planned. That sounds reasonable. Since you already have a things to work with that will probably be easy for you. I am just too much of a costume obsessed fanatic to limit my list any more. There are just too many images of fabulous gowns. I already have at least 50 other gowns that I want to do. That is not including spencers and pelisses. My vote for what you should do for February is for a nice evening type gown with the Mode Bagatelle unless the Feb event is going to be more casual (you would know) then I would go for the Period Impressions Bib Front. If it is more Casual I am going to have to re-arrange my list.

I hope that I haven't scared everyone away and you are all just busy with your holidays.

The truth is, looking at this pattern, I am probably going to wuss out and do the Mode Bagatelle pattern first anyway.
I'm going to have to find a nice elegant print for an evening gown.

Oh, and BTW, I'm quite sure it's about the holidays. Everyone is busy running around and bringing back those isotoner box slippers and single-cup coffee makers.

I know that there are a couple of new costumers on the board the last few days. Wouldn't you like to join my costuming "to do"s for 2008?

My overly ambitious, wildly optimistic costuming list for 2008 looks something like:
Jan-Apr: Aaah! Costume Con! No time for Regency sewing!
(Feb - Cyprians' Ball - a new frock for Teo)
By June Ball: modify pantaloons; a new tailcoat (using the Reconstructing History pattern?)
Aug: Aaah! WorldCon! Must sew Bujold*-inspired costumes! No time for Regency!
By October Ball: finish greatcoat, possibly a muff.
(* Bujold is Lois McMaster Bujold, excellent SF author of, among other fine books, the Miles Vorkosigan series.)

I've put my 'dream wardrobe' together on paper (drawn it). But it's far from complete. This is what I would like to have by the end of the year (+ a ballgown; which I didn't draw on here). This doesn't include the things I'd like to sew for Dan. Don't mind the roughness of it, I was just sketching on copy-paper during a boring conference call. I would add a nice simple ivory or champagne toned ballgown over which I could lay embellished silken and net pelisses from year to year.

Do we call this our "fantasy list" for 2008? Some of it is Regency. Costume project wants and needs, not necessarily in this order but as the whim suits me: 1.Cape for Regency and Romantic era- thin brown wool? 2.Regency ball gown –two piece (purple stripe?) w/ beret & feather 3.Romantic era- purple floral, orange floral voile 4.Edwardian tea gown- blue floral voile 5.1780s –red floral linen, red skirt? 6.Kannicks Korner chemise & cap 7.20s linen tea gown- June’s pattern-lavender linen 8.Victorian natural form- black frou-frou

you draw really well Steph! I draw marginally well; that image is just a sketchy sketch, and I did it in pen while on a conference call. But I dare say, I'm not a horrible artist. I can draw quite decently; and I enjoy it. I regret not doing it more these days. But thank you!

I am probabaly going to have to take out at least half of the items.
