I've just recently finished the Sense & Sensibility pattern for the cross over dress. I'm using a pale sage green, and I have a gold satin sash, but it just looks a bit...boring.
I've tried to find some images of extant gowns for examples of how they dressed up their gowns but I haven't had too much luck (most of the links to the MFA website do not work anymore).
Any suggestions on how I could "fancy up" my gown would be much appreciated!

How much time do you have? Embroidery is always a great way to add some razzle if you have the time & ability. For something more straight-forward you could stitch some braid (gold would match your sash beautifully) or jacquard (woven patterned, often floral) ribbon. I noticed from one of your other posts that you are in the GTA. If you haven't already, I highly suggest checking out Mokuba on Queen St. at Portland. They have the most amazing selection of high-quality (i.e. natural fiber or not too fake-looking) trims, and tend more towards the classical than the contemporary in their designs. I never fail to get inspired whenever I visit. The most common place to add trim on a wrap dress was along the edge of the neckline, down the skirt and around the sleeves, like so: Hope this helps!

Thank you so much!! I went to Mokuba today after work and got some gorgeous gold trim, I think it will look great with the dress and sash! I'll post a picture when I start working on it!
