Hi there! I am new to Regency, but I have sewn 1830's, 40's, 50's and 60's dresses. I am starting the Past Patterns Lewis and Clark gown and have a general question. How common in the period is the front crescent tuck that this pattern has? I assume the purpose is to make the hem slightly higher in the front? Would it be accurate to leave it out?

Yes, it would be perfectly correct to leave it out if you wish. The Past Patterns patterns are reproductions of existing garments. Saundra Altman makes the patterns and gives instructions exactly as the garment exists so that you are able to make a true reproduction garment should you wish to attempt it. You've chosen your first pattern well.

Thanks, Dawn - I kind of suspected that. I have sewn a few Past Patterns dresses and they are great patterns!
