Okay so I have finished my shift mock up and my stays mock up. What do you think? I keep asking my hubby, but he just says "Why are you asking me?" I used grommet grosgrain ribbon for lacing purposes. I used cable ties for the boning and masking tape to "baste" it in. Unfortunately as I was being laced in I popped one of the hip gussets. I am clearly going to have to shorten the thing by almost an inch because I am short waisted. I am debating lengthening the bust gussets by 1/2". Although I am probably just going to leave it and try it differently next time I try it. I just don't know that I have time to be futzting around with things. I am using a different busk than the one I have. It is too wide at the top. I have learned so much in a really short time already. Crazy!

Well I think it looks amazing Cosmo and you have a very nice figure!

Well, well if you ladies think that it looks okay I guess that I won't worry about the bust gussets for sure on this first attempt. I am just going to shorten it a little.

LOL! My hubby says the same thing!! The fit looks really good. I think the gussets will work better once you have the boning and ties in, and everything is cinched in properly.

LOL! My hubby says the same thing!! The fit looks really good. I think the gussets will work better once you have the boning and ties in, and everything is cinched in properly. I lose a lot of valuable working time when I fit things at home because my husband thinks that all this hiked-up cleavage is an invitation to a personal touchy-feely picnic. That's the reason why I took the final pictures of my stay on the dress form instead of asking him to do it with me in it. I had things to do. It's annoying. In fact, during the ball in November, instead of photographing the ball, he spent more time trying to take pictures of my boobs. He can barely keep his hands off me when I'm in costume, and it can be annoying because all through the events he's demanding attention and affection while I'm trying to keep things organized and talk to people. ARGH!!! Sometimes, I *wish* for a nice disinterested "why are you asking me?" instead... that'd be so nice.

Yeah, I get those "Woah! Baby!" looks too. And he thinks he's so great at tightening my corset too, but later I have to have someone re-lace it cuz he's got it all wonky. But he's so proud of himself.

Thanks Lady Serendipity. I thought it looked awful when I posted the pic, but the more you all tell me it looks okay the better it looks to me too.

Where did you get the busk? It really creates that separation. Your girls look fantastic, and your shift sits so perfectly on your shoulders. I'm quite envious; it's gorgeous.

Steph - It is the Manuta Maker's Busk. I don't much care for it, because I feel that it is squishing more than it is separating. I didn't post a down shot because I thought it would be a bit too maxim for the RSA Board, but I think a narrower busk would suit me better. Though since this is the one I have it is the one I am using. I am quite pleased with the shift though.

FAB work Cosmo! Can you sand down the width of the busk so it’s a little bit more narrow? Other option of course, being my paint stick trick. I’m probably a bit late for this bit of suggestion, but just in case I’m not, I’ll pass it along: (It’s a tiny – minor thing anyway) Notice in the back shot that the spacing between the laces is a bit wider at the top and then is a little closer at the waist and then is a bit wider at the bottom. It’s ideal to have an even space all the way down. I would add a little bit of extra to the top of the centre back panel and a little bit of extra to the back of the gusset in order to make the extra needed. It’s especially nice to have that extra gusset room for the hip. Other than that, it really looks good! ;D

The project that wouldn't die is dead! My stays are finished. Just a bit of hand sewing to do and then I am going to have the hubby lace me up and take a pic tomorrow when he gets home. Yay!

It is finally working! Here is my almost finished project. I still need to take out the basting. I should have checked myself in the mirror for weird wrinkles. Oh, well I was rushing. This thing is so heavy duty I didn't even really need to add the boning. I am going to write up a good review of this project with better pictures for the pattern review section after I finish all of this stuff for the party this weekend.
