I noticed that Jane's character in P&P wears a sleeveless spencer in one of the scenes and I was wondering if anyone else has seen one anywhere else. Are there any extant sleeveless spencers anywhere?

I've only seen them on a charicature before. I can't remember Jane's sleeveless Spencer in P&P... I'd imagine it is made of lighter weight for indoor use to enhance a day-dress.

That definately looks like something for inside the house. Just like RSA said, that it is something to gussy up a plain old day dress and make it look different.
It has little puff sleeves with what looks like spacers or splits. It lokos like it is made of cotton or muslin too, somethign light. It is really cute. Funny i didn't notice it, but neither did RSA so I dont' feel so bad.
Jane looks so pretty.
you and rsa have been really chatty. it went up amost fifty posts since lat time I was here. WOW

I think that it is very cute, I just think that it is odd that I haven't seen anything else like it anywhere else.
RSA and I have been a bit chatty. I try to keep posting in case someone new joins the forum. I want there always to be recent activity. I must admit I sometimes stretch a bit far for subjects to introduce. I hope that there are soon to be more registered members here.

I found you guys today thru LiveJournal's Regency group, where someone posted the link. I'll make mention of it on my own journal, and see who I can p/u for you. I know one of them, Debbie/"Sewing Bird", loves this era also. And we have a Regency theme going on at Costume College next year, so it will be a popular era. Val

You wouldn't believe this, but we had a new dancer come to lunch at our place today before our dance class, and she is the granddaughter of Cunnington, who wrote “English Women’s Clothing in the Nineteenth Century”. Her grandfather wrote it and her grandmother drew the pictures. She has loaned me a signed copy of one of the books to look at for bonnets in preparation for my bonnet workshop on Friday. I'm not a bonnet expert at all, but the teacher planned moved to England a few weeks ago and I got landed with the job. Ow! Cheers, Aylwen
