I have decided I really want to make this dress! I have decided to use the past patterns 1796 (I know 1796 just squeaks into what is accepted as Regency clothing wise :}) front closing dress with this fabric I have had it for ages waiting on the right inspiration! with little velvet sage ribbons around the neck and wrists. What do you think?

That is a very interesting gown. I haven't seen the movie yet though. Have you seen any extant garments like it? I think that the fabric choice will do just fine. Seeing as the gown in the photo doesn't strike me as being super regency it would make sense to me that the patter were for a bit earlier. Is this the patter that you're planning to use: www.pastpatterns.com/031.htmlIt says 1796-1806 so the dates are fine to use for regency. It looks like using that to make the gown Anne is wearing would take rather a lot of alterations. Maybe there is a closer pattern that you could use?

I have seen a couple of dresses like it in costumes close up, but the bust shaping seems to have darts, which would not be correct. I usually am not too much of a stickler for extant garments. I try to make sure everything is period correct but since I know there were so many dresses that existed that we will never see, I try to think what I would have made, had I been alive back then The darts on the bust of this one do trouble me though, so my dress will not be exactly the same. Since the movie is meant to take place in 1796, I thought I would try to stick with that year for patterns. I know that fig leaf is coming out with one that has a front opening, too, but I have not received it yet. I also may very well make this for daily wear so I may just modify what I have and add the darts Decisions, decisions!

I think the patterns in Hunnisett would work well to modify to create that dress. It would be a very cute everyday dress.
