www.pbase.com/cinnamonhrts/projects&page=2 Photos start in the middle to the right. Click on each to enlarge. I finished my bodiced petticoat last night, and then I spent part of the morning cutting and gathering some vintage petticoat embroidery to put around the hem on it, but when I started to pin it on, I realized the white white trim made the sheeting fabric of my petticoat look yellow. All that work for nothing. If I have time, I'll cut out some of the fabric and make my own ruffle. It needs some poofy ruffles. Still have some handwork left to do on all of them, like final trims, buttons/buttonholes, hooks & eyes, but everything is just about done. I'd like some opinions. The last couple photos show a white trim pinned around the neck of the white gown, and one without. Does it look better with or without? And please ignore the badly fitting bodice. I just realized the model is still set at a 41" underbust, and I'm now a 36" underbust. Makes a big difference in the fit on me. As you can see, I have a very lazy cat, Rudy, who couldn't be bothered to move while I was taking photos.

I like it better without the trim.

I think it adds a nice dainty touch.

I prefer it with the trim. I think it balances the trim on the robe. But you have to go with what speaks to you

It looks like I may HAVE to use the trim. I need something to cover the bodiced petticoat that wants to show itself to the world. I put the drawstring in today and that may cover the petticoat. But I'm going to baste the trim on first because with the drawstring bunching up the neckline, the trim may look a little wonky.

For what it’s worth Val, and coming very late into the conversation: I quite like the trim. If the petticoat is peeking out the trim is perfect.
Beautiful work! I love the undergown. It’s very, very pretty and I’ll bet you’ll be sewing more things to wear with it. A basic white gown just can’t be beat!

I sewed it on last time and tested it with the gathering and it looks really really nice. Then I put it on the sleeves. It gives a very finished look to it. This is a ballgown, not an ordinary day dress. I was "copying" a portrait of Queen Caroline and the Princess Borghese, and they had lots of gold trim and laces. So that's where this is coming from. The fabric is kind of like a peau de soie, so it's heavier than cotton. I will be making a cotton voile later that won't be using trims.
