I found a fabric I really like and was wondering if it would be suitable for a Regency ball gown. The color is Sage Green, and the material is Silk Batiste. Could just see this trimmed with some ecru lace.
Tried to post the link, but it would not post properly.
Thanks in advance Lady Caroline

So I should look for a fabric with a little more "body" to it? Thanks for the input. What about the color.....this looks similar to period garments I have seen.

I don't think the color is bad at all. In fact it is quite pretty.

You know, for the price, I’d be willing to give this fabric a try. “Drapey” can be nice… You WILL NEED to wear a petticoat underneath in order to support the skirts at the bottom. It would also be worthwhile to ensure you put some tucking in the bottom of that petticoat which will help to even better support your skirts. You don't want the gown clinging. The colour is perfect. Your idea of adding "blonde" lace sounds lovely. I would go with a very fine cotton or silk (if you can find and afford it) embroidered net type lace. It looks like it would make a positively scrumptious Regency gown to me.

I agree with dawn. I prefer taffeta, but I think with the right undergarments you can make a lovely gown.

Will look for taffeta in this shade. Understand that duponi silk is not correct for the Regency era?
Again, thank you to all who answered.

Understand that duponi silk is not correct for the Regency era? Lady Caroline Correct, Dupioni is not period accurate. The people who could afford silk wanted it nice and smooth, without flaws(slubs).
