I started compiling a list of events for next years 1812 season, it's still in the works but I am hoping to gather more information as the season approaches. I hope that by offering this list with information it will encourage more people to look into the 1812 community.
War of 1812 Events May 2-3 Battle of Longwoods, London,ON May 23-24 Fort Meigs, Perrysburg, OH June 5-7 Battle of Stoney Creek, Hamilton ON June 13-14 Muster on the Maumee, Fort Meigs, Perrysburg, OH **July 11-13 Grand Tactical Crysler's Farm, Morrisburg, ON ** August 8-9 Seige of Fort Erie, Fort Erie, ON September 5-6 Battle at Put In Bay, Put In Bay, OH October 2-4 Mississinewa, Marion, IN
Conferences and Other Events Feb 28 Living History Conference Mohawk College, Hamilton ON March 28 Regency Exhibition Ball, Lansing, MI April? Clothing Conference, Fort Meigs, Perrysburg OH July? Jane Austen Festival, Locust Grove, Louisville, KY
As the events get closer I will be sure to add more information. No news yet as to an event happening at Ft. Niagara this year, but I will continue to keep an ear open for that one specifically.

I know that the Canadian Fencibles have their annual meeting in December this year, at which time they hand out the calendar for the year. I will be sure to let you know if there are more on that list, too.
I have heard of plans from some in our group to organize an event in Amherstview, ON, but since many in our group also do Rev War it may not be 1812. I will keep you posted.
I have also been told that Crysler's farm will be exciting this year with an actual wedding happening nearby in Upper Canada Village.

I am extremely excited about the Grand Tactical! Rob Trumbull Col. of our unit the 19th is going to be the commander of the US forces. As a lady (and sometimes a man hehe) under his command we have begun planning plenty of ladies activities including a tea, period games and maybe even a talk on period make up and hairstyles. Of course there will be a grand ball in the evening and I am working my butt off to make sure that it is a good caller and nothing reminescent of the caller at this years GT.
Please keep me up to date on events around your area, I know the ones listed are events that we attend annually so any events you get wind of let me know.

We have a new event here this year. I don't have all the details yet, but it will be quite special to our unit. There was some vandalism in a cemetary in the town of Perth, Ontario. Many of the original members of our unit, The Canadian Fencibles, settled and were burried there. The town has decided to repair and rededicate the cemetary, and has asked us to be the honor guard. There has been talk of a camp, and possibly a battle and other demonstrations. I don't think there were any actual battles there, but I will let you know when I get more details.

I have told my husband that we are definitely going to the GT. That being said, I only live about 30 minutes from Crysler's farm. If there is anything I can do to be of assistance with planning or preparation for any of these activities, please let me know. I know our group does not tend to have anyone who plans things for the women. As this will be my first year doing reenactments, I am eager to do what I can to move the women's aspect forward. I don't want my teenage daughter to lose interest, because there is nothing to do.

That is just great! Having someone close to the site will be a big help for planning and making sure things get done. I will be sure to let Betsy Bashore and Rob Trumbull know that your family is willing to help. We have not really sat down together and put things on paper yet but I will bring it up tomorrow.
Are there any activities that you and your daughter might enjoy trying?
BTW how have the gowns come along?

The gowns are great. We (my husband and I) convinced my Step son and his girlfriend to join us, too, so I have had to add their costumes to my list. I have cut out five, and sewn three. I just have to measure hems. Mine is not fitting quite right, but I think a stay will cure most of the problems there. I am going to work on that this week, as well as some new pants for my husband. We have our annual meeting in two weeks, so I am under a bit of a time crunch. I am thankful that I get to be a stay at home mom (even though my youngest is in school full time), so that I have time to get one outfit together for each person. I don't think I could make it if I had to work.
We are open to about any types of activities, and learning about the time period more.

Dear Miss Credit, The way things are developing for me in 2009 I may not be able to travel to but a couple larger events at most. However, because of that in 2009, my commitments should be over (Masters degree) so that I can start attending many more events again starting in 2010. Fort Meigs in May is possible, but not probable. I really want to attend this event, but it may have to wait another year. We'll see. Unfortunately I probably won't attend the Grand Tactical in 2009. I have a schedule conflict with that date. At this point, it looks like Fort Erie is the best chance for me to attend. Which is actually quite good. I attended a number of years ago and had so much fun! Thanks mostly to Lt. Col. Trumbull and his lady. My regiment was at the original siege and participated in most of the actions, so that should work in favor of getting some of my troops to go. Plus we have wanted to get to an event to serve Lt. Col. Trumbull again (and his trusty Lt. F ) as he is usually fun to work with. It has been a number of years since I've been to Fort Erie, and since you're in the 19th Infantry and probably chat with Rob and Betsy, I was wondering if you know if they have a Ball or some kind of dance at Fort Erie. Or what other social activities they have for the reenactors these days. My unit will be meeting soon to start determining what events we'll attend as a unit in 2009 and any information you can help with would help me get my guys there. Mississinewa is also a possibility as well as another smaller event in November, but they will be during the school semester. And the semester that I'll be working on my thesis and capstone project, so it could be rough and I won't be able to decide until last minute if I can get away. It will be so good to get back into everything. I've really missed it. Perhaps I'll even try to get to a Ball or some event with the ORS. Let me know what you find out about Fort Erie. Thanks.

No news yet of Fort Erie, Major, but my dear friend Josh Bodie is attending the Royal Scots Christmas party there this evening. I have asked him to look into things for me since Peter and Craig will be attending. Hopefully by next week I shall have an answer for you! I do say sir is a ball or other social engagement a requirement for your troops to posess any interest in an event? If that is the only way to bring you boys out this way perhaps with some help I could see about arranging something at Fort Erie. We would love to have you come out. It is very unfortunate that you wont be able to attend the GT. All of us here are very excited for the event and from the sounds of it, it should be a worthwhile trip.

My Dear Miss Credit, Any updates you can provide would be most appreciated. Our annual Christmas Party is this evening I shall be sure to raise a glass to you. Unfortunately the GT is about the same time as my fathers' birthday. Not to be melancholy, but he is in the years that we never know which will be his last. So it just isn't to be this time. We'll see next year. A Ball or dance is not required for my lads to travel to an event. I was wondering mostly for my own selfishness, I do love a Ball and dancing I look forward to any information you can glean.

Had to point out that you all had neglected to list The Battle of New Orleans January 10, 2009 Even thought this battle took place after the Treaty of Ghent was signed, the treaty had not been ratified. Had the British won the battle, the history of America would have been very, very different. I will be there with a small group of ladies and gentlemen. We have been gradually building up attendance back up since Hurricane Katrina did so much damage to the site. Plans are already underway for the 200th Anniversary of the Battle.....January 8, 2015. Miss Credit, As the GT is approaching, I am curious to know if you have any plans that we in Canada may be needed for assistance. I believe I have only one project to complete between now and then, so time is available.
