We were discussing in my other thread the idea of practicing penmanship, and exchanging correspondence with fellow regency lovers.
I thought perhaps we could get an idea of how many would be interested, and then perhaps organize ourselves to exchange addresses privately in order to correspond with one another utilizing the language of the period and perhaps as a way to practice penmanship.
Anyone interested?

I would be interested!
A question though... what sort of things would we write about? :-)

Our lives? What's going on in our area....our favorite books, movies, whatever comes to mind. Perhaps we could discuss questions we have about the era. Research we've done.

Sounds like a wonderful idea. Would we write in a more classic Regency style using the vernacular of the period or...not?

Perhaps we should try our best to write in the classic style and stick with the vernacular of the period where possible, but I certainly would not get upset if someone could not or did not do so.

What a wonderful idea! It would be an interesting exercise to reflect upon the very ordinary daily grind in order to find humor or meaning in the small things. Would it be prudent to avoid mention of certain subjects (politics, religion), or perhaps we can state our preferences either to avoid, allow, or encourage these topics between our correspondents?

Perhaps it would be wise to avoid at the very least the following three: politics, religion and sex. Those are normally the touches subjects in any sort of conversation.

As far as the rules of engagement so to speak, we shall endeavor not to discuss the above mentioned topics of religion, sex or politics. Also, we shall attempt to use the style and language of the period whenever possible.
Promptness, barring familial or personal emergencies, would also be greatly appreciated in correspondence.
I suggest that we determine the number of interested parties in total, and then determine if we wish to correspond with everyone or perhaps rotate each month or some similar concept?
Anyone have an suggestions?

So far, I think your idea sounds very good. Are we to write as our "modern" selves, mentioning things like cars, e-mail, etc., or as "lightly fictionalized" (removing or altering non-regency references) selves? Either option could be fun!

I would say keep it true to life, not fictionalized. But that is my personal preference.

It's possible to write about modern things without sounding modern. For instance, instead of saying "we took the car and drove to see a movie," you might say, "we rode into town to see a show." It's actually kind of fun working out how to say things that way. :-)
I don't mind the lightly fictionalized option either.
For our first letters, we might want to see who is participating and pair off, so everyone gets a letter, but from there, we could just write as we please.
Perhaps we could post a little more about ourselves (or our fictional selves, if we go that route,) as a starting point and so we might see who we have things in common with.
Just some ideas...

Here is an idea that I just had. We could have an address keeper, one person who everyone that is interested sends their address to along with the number of people they would like to correspond with(one, or two, or however many). And then the address keeper can send the corresponding addresses to everyone. That would ensure that everyone gets a letter.

I'm liking this! I'm not so sure about the fictionalization of ourselves, but I do like trying to avoid a tremendous amount of "modern" language.
I'm in and I think the idea about a central address-keeper is a good one!

Excellent. I shall volunteer to be the address-keeper if no one else does. Everyone can just message me privately their contact information and the number of people they would like to correspond with.
