We're having our son baptised next month, and I finally pulled our our christening gown only to discover about 10 small holes in the super fine cotton fabric, and a few places that look as though they'll turn into holes soon. Wouldn't it figure that the holes are all on the outer gown, rather than the slip? My husband walked into the room as I was buttoning the gown onto the baby and said, "Why is he wearing a dress?!" I was wondering if anyone had any fabric darning references to share, or could tell me where I can find very, very fine cotton thread. The 100% cotton thread I have is a quilting weight and much too heavy for a semi-transparent cotton!

"Why is he wearing a dress?!" LOL!!!!!!!!
Try to find a shop that teaches Heirloom Sewing classes. They sell a superfine, all-cotton embroidery thread for the class - or they did 15 years ago when I took one. You may need to order it online unless you are near a big city.

Thanks -- I think online might be the best option, unless I can convince my Hub to let me go to the garment district when we're in LA this week.
