Shall we start figuring out what is going into our first issue? Ideas and such please!

I thought perhaps as it is our first issue, perhaps we could focus this issue on firsts..first introductions, coming out, etc... There is a wealth of ideas there.

I suppose it also depends on when it is published. If by the end of this year, we could focus on the season; autumn or winter and the pastimes, recipes, etc that would be pursued at this time. Perhaps an appropriate embroidery pattern? Images of our members in winter cloaks; riding habits, etc. Patterns on making a muff, or a winter bonnet? Stories or poems relating to the season?

I like both nomadicdragon and artemisajolie's ideas very much. I think perhaps it can be autumn themed (autumn recipes, clothing, patterns, etc.) as we are heading towards autumn, but since this is also our first issue, perhaps we can have introductions and such as well?

As it will be the first issues, from previous experience, it will take longer than the following issues will, simply because it is the first and there are always things to work out with a first issues. Perhaps we could aim for November 1st? Then we could have Autumn and Winter themes for the regular articles/columns. As well as some special items about firsts?

If it is to be an autumn/winter issue, what do you think of an article on the poet Robert Burns (though he died in 1796 - might be pushing it to consider him a "regency" poet, but...)? Possibly including ideas on hosting a Burns Supper in honor of his birthday on 25 Jan? Or similarly, an article celebrating Jane's birthday on 16 Dec?

Even though Robert Burns is not a Regency poet, he was probably read during the Regency, so I think that is a good idea!

I agree with Miss Clockwood.
If we are doing an Autumn/Winter issue. I would love to perhaps create a Christmas Regency menu, complete with recipes and a review of most if not all of those recipes. It would be great fun. I could take photos of the finished products.

I love the Christmas Menu idea! I'd love to see how the period recipes look once they're cooked up.

It would be such fun to research and then try the recipes, I'd probably have to adjust some for modern times, but still it would be fun.

The mention of food made me remember these blog posts: en.wordpress.com/tag/regency-food/It might be fun to do a Weird/horror menu for Halloween of all the weird things they ate, as well as a regular/modern palate menu.

What are your thoughts on some sort of Regency advice column?

What are your thoughts on some sort of Regency advice column? Oh that is a most delightful idea. We could "write in" questions that we have and whoever handles the column could answer them. It would be must informative and diverting.

My thoughts exactly. I think we can also, when we have enough, have our readers send in any questions they have as well.

I'm so sorry I have disappeared as of late, my classes have started up again, and for some reason my work has decided they need me more than they used to. I love all the ideas so far and I can't wait to help out. I love the Regency Advice column idea.

How about a column for local happenings, then all chapters of the RSA could get more participants possibly? I love the ideas put forth so far as well!! I can't wait to see it all come together

I can't wait to see it all come together Oooh, a most wondrous idea! Other ideas: How about a section for writings such as poems, short stories, etc? Illustrations and images are also a nice touch to any magazine as well. Review sections- to review anything related to the Regency. I am wondering though: When are we aiming to release the first issue?

Perhaps we could have people send in art work to feature in the mag? people are always sharing those things on the forum here...things they've found in antique shops and so forth...
We could have contests for the nicest paintings and so forth, we could even have contests for the best recipes too to tie into the culinary ideas posted above.

Oh dear, I see this thread hasn't been updated since October! I hope this idea isn't dead or anything of that sort- in other words, are we still aiming to have a Regency magazine?
