Has anyone ever made a standing lace collar or ruff. like the one worn by Josephine at her coronation. I'm thinking of making one to go with a ball gown but don't really know how to go about it, besides using huge amounts of starch that is!

I think you'll need to wire it in order for it to stand on its own.

Yes i was thinking of wire as well. I heard thick fishing line works well.

There are specific wires meant for supporting collars. They zig-zag and are made of a metal that bends just the right amount – not too much so it doesn’t crimp and not too little so you can shape the collar. Scroll down this page: www.farthingales.on.ca/buckles.php
