I'm looking for period appropriate playthings for my son. I know most children made their own toys and games from what they could find (indeed, we always enjoy a rousing game of toss-the-walnut-shell and all its variations). I've seen boys with hoops in paintings, and of course the cup-and-ball/bilbo catcher is classic. What other toys or games were popular? Draughts (checkers)? Fox and Geese? What about "lead" soldiers?

These people have been involved in living history and research for decades. They’ve done tons of research on period toys and games. The quality of the product is generally excellent. And they’re very nice people. www.fairetymetoys.com/
