Here is a photo of my completed ensemble with the turban. Bennettgirl made the dress and my necklace. I couldn't be happier with the dress. I made the turban, reticule and sash. For the future, I'm going to add some gold fringe to the ends of the sash to match the gold tassles and ribbon on my reticule. I also plan to put some gold trim on the turban to tie all of the colors used together.

Also, I should note that the dress fabric is the silky cotton voile from Dharma Trading Co. that is only $6.18/yard. I was very happy with the fabric in person and it is a great option for a dress when budget is a concern.

I think it's because the voile has a nice tight weave that doesn't fray or unravel as badly as the sheer fabrics that have looser weaves do.

More sacque style turban inspiration: I think I'm going to re-do my turban to resemble this one pictured on the right. (And look at the other Athena-inspired bonnet! Want. Now.)

Hi ladies, I'm new here, but I really like this thread. Esther your outfit is lovely. I am wondering if you had any trouble with the feathers flopping or falling over? If so, what was your solution? I don't have any problems wiring or sewing feathers onto straw hats, but when it comes to turbans or fabric head bands, I fuss and fidget with heavy feathers. They don't want to stand up for me.

Thank you for the kind compliment. I didn't have much trouble with the feathers falling out, but in the outside breeze the feathers acted like sails and I almost lost my hat a few times outside. My turban was made from a circle gathered onto a band that goes around my head. Around the band, I wrapped another length of fabric twice and tacked it into place as I went around the headband. I tucked the feather down pretty far into the wrapped headband and sewed it tightly into place by stitching around the length of the quill. I then covered up the stitches with a ribbon and a brooch. I think the feather stayed in place because of how far I tucked the quill down into the headband. It was really anchored into place. But even then, they still wanted to spin around in place in the wind.

I restyled my turban based on everyone's suggestions and thought I would share a picture. I removed one of the feathers, made a rosette out of some silk ribbon and put a vintage paste brooch on top of the rosette. I'm quite happy with the results.
