Another way to help build your character is to make and keep a 'Period Journal'. It's a great way to get into the mind-frame of a person from a particular time period. It makes you THINK about the language and daily activities/routines of your character as they might go about their business and daily life. It also forces you do do research into some of the things your persona would know about daily life and locations in your chosen time period. There have been many times I have been in the middle of writing a period post and realized that I knew NOTHING about the location that I'm talking about. Quite by accident, I have learned a good deal about my own hometown history through this research. So how do you keep a period journal? There are a number of ways to do this... you can purchase some sort of nice looking physical book or journal and keep it up by hand... These are GREAT to have at events. And there's the more modern way that is easily shared with others, keep a blog. There are a number of people that I know that keep up 'period journals' in this manner that I'd like to share with you. Okay, despite the fact that I have yet to fully create my character, I have decided to create a blog for her and will let you know when I have posted the first entry. She's been floating around and taking shape in my head for many months, so I have her well-figured out. It is just the events that take place and the people in her life that I have yet to figure out. And the time period, the year, etc I still need to figure out, as well. I will also post a link once I have the first entry up.

Oh this is a fantastic idea. Once I begin to set up a character for myself, I will most certainly be doing this. Thank you.

When I first started blogging my adventures as the FIRST Doctor (1750-1790), I didn't do it in character, I'd just write about the places I'd been and post pictures... but over time, I slowly began feeling more and more confident about it. You can see the COLONIAL Doctor here: manskerman1780.blogspot.com/Even if you don't feel comfortable with writing 'In Character', a journal such as this is an excellent way to share your adventures with others. Sometimes, I will only post pictures from events I attend. I look very forward to seeing the fruit of your labours!
