I've asked for so much advice while making this uniform, I thought I should post a picture of the finished garments. This is an undress uniform of a Royal Navy captain, circa 1805. I bought quite a few men's coat patterns but ended up creating my own, for the most part. I referenced the book Dressed to Kill, by Amy Miller a great deal, as well as Federalist & Regency Costume, by R.L. Shep, and The Cut of Men's Clothes: 1600-1900, by Norah Waugh. The shirt, waistcoat and breeches are all from patterns by Kannik's Korner. The coat is made from melton wool and lined in white linen. The shirt is white linen with self buttons. The waistcoat and breeches are of brushed twill. Waistcoat has a linen back and lining. The epaulets and brass buttons on the coat and waistcoat were purchased from Military Heritage, www.militaryheritage.com/button1.htmThe hat was purchased from Hatcrafters at hatcrafters.com/ It still needs trim and a cockade. It's not perfect, and I've learned a great deal during this project. The next one will be better.... but I think I'll take a break first! ;-) Attachments:

Oh smashing! It gives mind to my OWN days in His Majesty's Navy! And what ship, pray tell, is he the Captain of? Perhaps I know him, did he serve at the NILE in '98? Or TRAFALGAR perhaps?

What beautiful work! What a truly lucky husband you have -- it must have been such a labor of love to complete that ensemble!
How did you fashion the epaulettes?

Thank you all for the compliments! I am pretty proud of it, but like all artists, I see my mistakes more clearly than others do! ;-) How did you fashion the epaulettes? The epaulets were purchased. I had thought I might experiment and make some, but lack of time won out over lack of money. :-)
