If you had to choose a Jane Austen character for a spouse who would it be? I am not sure who I would choose I would have said Bingley at one point since he is so agreeable and rich. I could get over his being easily persuaded because that would be a trait that could benefit me. Then I saw J.J. Feild as Henry Tilney and I was wooed he is attractive, and he dances. Then again there is Captain Wentworth good looking and well employed. So many eligible men and all fictitious.

I would definately pick Bingley. As much as I love Mr.Darcy, I think if I were married to him we would fight A LOT. Actually my husband is actually a lot like Bingley minus the rich part. I'm nothing like Jane though...much more an Elizabeth.

Hmmm, this is a very good questions. For me it would have to be Colin Firth/Mr. Darcy.

This is a hard question!!!
I spent all my life dreaming of marrying a Mr. Darcy, and I ended up with a Bingley! GO FIGURE!
I think I love Mr. Knightley best of them all, though...

I had my fill of willoughbys; my life was beset by broken hearts and passion and drama... I finally agreed to marry someone at the ripe old age of 34; and he was the sweet, quiet, (silly and goofy only with very close family and me) devoted soul I never thought I'd end up with. It's a wholly different kind of love than what I expected, but I think that's why it will last.
I always thought I'd end up with a fellow author, creative person with nerd-like tendencies. I'm an artistic nerd, I really thought I'd end up with someone with like interests
But hubby cares little for all the nerdly pursuits I have, and I have no interest (except to support him) in hot-rods or fishing or shooting other such flannel-heavy activities, but somehow we find accorance between us. It took him a year to read one of my books--not out of lack of interest but he's just not a reader (OMG, I can't believe I married a non-reader!!!!!)
He hates politics and generally ignores them, I'm a raging left-leaning libertarian and passionate about everything. He lets me sew my heart out (with some minimal grumping about the mess and domination of the dining room table), he goes mudding in the Jeeps, rumbles loudly with the dogs; we both like the Sarah Conner Chronicles, and he makes himself scarce (to play Playstation) when Project Runway comes on the television. I think we've acheived some sort of weird balance... He'd rather build a motor than write anything creative, hasn't got an artistic bone in his body, actually, now that I think of it.
Exceptionally romantic when he tries. Candles, pampering... but he has to be prodded sometimes.
And he cooks too. Quite well. That's a real shocker for me--having always been around men helpless in the kitchen except to heat up something in the microwave. Refreshing to say the least.
Most of all though, he is extremely devoted, and totally in love with me. I can't say he isn't because I can see it clearly in his eyes. He's VERY affectionate (weird 'cause I'm not so touchy-feely), and would do anything for me. He is a bit unmanagable in the affection department; i.e. chasing me around, etc... but it's a price I willingly (although barely) pay for a content stability.
I had to sift through a lot of chaff and ridiculous crap to find the right guy; who oddly is the polar opposite of what I thought I wanted. I guess I was a bit of a Marianne romantic then. Now, I'm like a Mrs. Croft (who is one of my favourite married women in all of JA's novels). I can't imagine life without him. I only wish he'd come with a Friesian.

I have been with my guy since I was 23, I have only had one other boyfriend, from 16-22. I have had my share of affairs of the heart, though. I am ridiculously in love with tragic, doomed, romance. I have had some pretty intense crushes and such... My guy has always tolerated it and loved me. He is very artistic, makes his living with music, and says that he would be a hypocrite to try to squelch my sweet, love everyone, romantic nature since that is why he fell in love with me:)

I I'm torn between Captain Wentworth and Mr. Darcy, though I wouldn't mind living at Pemberley

Colonel Brandon, absolutely. I love that man.
And Henry Tilney -- I found him adorable, upright, but also flirty. And 27! Works for me.

I rather like a man of action, one who is assured of his talents. Captain Wentworth always had confidence that he would make his fortune at sea. One of the causes of his anger towards Anne for rejecting him was that she did not possess the same belief in his talents as he did. She was easily persuaded and therefore the instrument of her own unhappiness, regardless of Lady Russell's influence. When Captain Wentworth returned as a rich man he was ready to settle down. I like how Jane created a complex character who loved passionately, who reacted with a great deal of hurt and wounded pride, but who nevertheless rose above those emotions to remain loyal to his one true love. He seems so realistic and down to earth and steadfast and romantic at the same time. As I grow older, I like Captain Wentworth more and more. Plus, by the end of the war he could purchase Kellynch Hall several times over. I adore a self-made man with financial stability.

I agree with all the deep stuff - Persuasion is my favorite JA novel, but I must be shallow about this Wentworth character. He's SAH! (don't ask, I probably can't say it on the board anyway).

I'm sure everyone will mimic me in falsetto when I 'say' this but... Colonel Brandon, Colonel Brandon, Colonel Brandon.
I also see myself married to someone like Mr. Bennett too. Bratty and sarcastic.

I married Mr. Knightly -- I'm not sure that would have been my first choice of characters, but I think he's good for me. Bossy, though. Sooo bossy.
I forgot to add that he also *rarely* dances, which is unfortunate, but I love him anyway.

Ooh fun topic! Thanks for pointing it out again.
I would say I married Edward Ferrars. The quintessential nice guy, a little quiet, intelligent but down to earth.
Twenty two years later, with life experiences both good and bad behind us, I think he's more of a Colonel Brandon, but not exactly.
Kindly, ~Barbara

I have had my Mr. Darcy, Mr. Bingley, Mr. Wickham, and Willoughby. I miss my Mr. Darcy the most. However, I think I'd be better suited with a Mr. Bingley
