I just may be one of "those people" too. Those are my favorite movies on your list. My Steph one of those people was in refernce to this "I can't think of any recent chick-flicks that I enjoyed. They're pretty formulaic lately. I despise romantic comedies." Specifically the last part. I think the movies on her list are wonderful except for Shakespeare in Love which made me feel physically ill and Rebecca which I haven't seen all the way through.

OOoh, I forgot about Wuthering Heights... A classic!
Shakespeare in love is one of the rare mushy romances that I truly enjoyed. Probably because I just love Shakespeare to begin with.
Rebecca Rules.
And I didn't like P&P 2005 either. At all.

Overall, I thought this was a decent film. I enjoyed the scenery, costumes, etc. But I didn't care for the way they portrayed Jane Austen. After watching the movie, I felt that since she didn't have a happy, romantic ending, she ended up living through her characters. I originally anticipated a better ending. Because of this, I almost wish I hadn't seen this film.

I really loved this movie, and so did Matt. Even if it is not accurate, I have my own feelings own this as many Jane lover's do, I thought it really captured a lot more in it than just a tale about Jane Austen. I am sure it doesn't hurt that I think James M and Ann H were amazingly wonderfully achingly lovely in it. I am also very pleased they left Henry Fielding in, as well.
I suppose, later in the week, if anyone wants to hear an in depth review, I will write one. Are you all surprised? Well, suffice it to say, any film that makes my man weep and tell me he loves me is oscar worthy in my book, as long as there are no zombies in it:) And I loved the costumes... I have the exact fabric to make her pink and creme vined front close dress.

I finally got to watch this to the end. I just got my dvd repaired on my TV today, and it was the first thing I wanted to watch. I enjoyed it. I wasn't trying to watch it as a biography. I watched it as another Regency movie. And I liked the ending. It made me feel good that Tom named his daughter Jane, although I don't know if that was a truth. It was a nice touch tho. On the Bonus Features, it was interesting to hear why some of it was filmed the way it was, and the reasons behind it. The different eras of costume was rather jarring at first. But after awhile it made sense. Just as you look around today at the clothing our mothers, grandmothers, and the young'uns are dressed in, so were they. I look at myself and what I wear, then what girls 30 years younger than me are wearing, and Aha! It's just like real life. After that, I enjoyed looking at ALL the costumes. And I'm rather feeling like I may bring a copy of Pride & Prejudice with me on vacation, as I haven't read it yet. So far all I've read is Sense & Sensibility. Seen all the movies!

He did, indeed, name his daughter Jane. I feel that this is a plausible story, even in historical context. Some Jane-ites disagree, but I feel from what was said in some of her letters, and what he told his nephew after her death, there was a strong affection between them. Supposedly Cassandra burned many of Jane's most intimate letters upon her death so it is hard to say exactly. They did make Tom a lot wilder in spots than he is said to have been. I watched it on On Demand, so I did not see the Bonus Features. Since I ordered the DVD directly after viewing it, I look forward to seeing those soon. To be honest, it was the 2005 P & P that made me wait so long to see this movie. I disliked it so very much, and I thought this might be the same.
