What are your favourites? Least Favourites?
Believe it or not, I think Hugh Grant gave my favourite performance as Lord Byron. Jonny Lee Miller was a very close second...
Gabriel Byrne... eh when I was 16 I loved Gothic... now... eh but Julian Sands as Shelley was very scrumpts.

Julian Sands is hot. I will have to check out the Gabriel Byrne bio pic. It's hard to picture Hugh Grant as Byron.

Hugh is amazing as Byron. The film is called Rowing with the Wind, and luckily it is now out on DVD. The scenery is amazing!

Not to be missed is the prologue to BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935), set in 1816 near Geneva, Switzerland, during a massive thunderstorm. Based on an actual historical event, Lord Byron (Gavin Gordon) ask Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (Elsa Lanchester) about the new novel she has been writing (FRANKENSTEIN). Shelley describes her tale to Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley, setting up the film that follows. Gordon is superb as Byron, and Lanchester is memorable as Mary Shelley, later playing the iconic "Bride" at the climax of the movie. The décolleté gown Lanchester wears is beautiful, and raised the ire of 1930s movie censors, so some of Elsa's close-ups were cut. A movie definitely worth watching!
