The Oregon Regency Society's sister group; the "Set to Music" English Country Dancers held a ball on Oct 13, "Night at the Museum"; a costume event where participants could come wearing costumes of their favourite historical figures. Pictures of this event can be found here: picasaweb.google.com/goldbridle/NightOfTheMuseumThere are lots of gorgeous costumes on there; civil war gowns, and more. Check it out. This is one of the groups that handles the Regency dance for the Oregon Regency Society's balls and parties. Homepage for the Set to Music Dancers: www.oregonregencysociety.com/dancelessons.htm

These guys are in McMinnville. Are there any English Country Dance classes closer to Portland? I'd like to learn.

Hi, I found this link www.kluberg.com/pdxenglish.html but I don't know anything about it personally, but they seem to have a dance every Friday. I don't know if there are lessons though.

I would like to encourage folks out there who are interested in learning the essentials of English Country Dance that they would find friendly dancers and teacher with the "Set to Music" ECD group, of which I am a part. Considering it takes awhile to absorb the various dance terms and recall them while participating in dance class, ~ this group is amongst the friendly and helpful crowd to learn with. While it may be 45 minutes to and hour drive from Portland, it is well worth the effort to find a group that takes time to go through things for new to ECD folks. The dance classes are held in a nice grand ballroom in the downtown of McMinnville, right on Third Street. McMinnville boasts some great places to eat along Third Street so you can make it a fun adventure to journey this way. "Set to Music" hosts balls every two months which give you the opportunity to dance for several hours with people in fine costumes from the Regency period. If you go to the Oregon Regency Society web site at www.oregonregencysociety.com you can contact the instructor and get on her email list to get the latest on the "Set to Music" dance happenings or changes in the schedule. I might add that it is quite affordable as well.

Welcome to the board, Kathryn! How lovely to see you here! Yay!
Set to music is a wonderful group, and they are very active in the ORS. Laura is a great and patient teacher.
