They did the same thing with teh seventies and eighties versions too. We ought to check to see if any of those got used in more recent versions as well. I'm sure we'd instantly recognize the giant seventies paisley dresses, of course.

This gown on Mansfield Park and P&P What an odd little spencer (left).

I only noticed the first post when I said it's the same gown. I didn't know there were so many more.

I'm sure we'd instantly recognize the giant seventies paisley dresses, of course. The Costumer's Guide lists: Elizabeth Bennet in P&P 1980 wears Jane Fairfax's (Emma 1972) military style blue coat at Pemberley. Jane wears it in Emma during a visit to the vicarage. Caroline Bingley in P&P 1980 wears Emma Woodhouse's (Emma 1972) pink gown at Netherfield. Emma wears it to Donwell for the strawberry-picking party.

Trust me, watch the old ones, they reuse most every costume; you see the Persuasion costumes in P&P and Emma's costumes everywhere as well.

It makes sense. Why toss them away. They're perfectly fine.

This is so interesting that they did this. It totally makes sense though. I never really thought about what they did with all the costumes in the movie. A very good idea.

Thanks for all the pictures, cosmo....I enjoyed looking at them all!
Interesting how the same garment can look totally different, or invoke a completely different feeling, on a different person, with a different accessory, or in a different setting.
That in itself is food for "costuming" thought!

FASCINATING!!! I'm even more jealous of the Regency House Party ladies now. And it never crossed my mind that they were the same dresses, though it would make sense that the production team would get the costumes from a warehouse. There can't be too many places in England, too -- so that would account for the frequency.
They've seen a lot, haven't they?

I first noticed this gown in RHP then in P&P. Here it is on the countess, and Jane wearing it. This gown was on Mrs. Weston in the Kate Beckinsale Emma

Another gown on Miss Konick and on Mrs. Bennett. This dress is back again in Little Dorrit on Masterpiece Classic.
