What is your costume creation method?
How do you start? Do you work straight from a commercial pattern? Do you start with a base commercial pattern and then modify it? Do you draft a pattern based from a sketch? Do you drape on a form?
How do you fit? Do you have someone help you to fit your garment on you over your foundation garments? Do you have a dressform that is your measurements? Do you have a duct tape/ paper tape double?
In my normal non historical costume life I usually draft a pattern based on a sketch so I am curious how you work.

1. Dressform made with a t-shirt and duct tape; also trussed up in my corset. 2. Adjust cutting on pattern. Make my own pieces, for instance, straight sleeves to replace puffy ones. I'm not advanced enough to drape and create my own pattern yet.

My husband found the task quite entertaining. It is the ugliest thing in the world, I'm going to have to make a cotton overlay for it, it looks like a big grey lump. But it works. The only issue is that the bust doesn't have the 'give' that a real one does when you apply your corset to it. If you want to be very specific, you *could* make a form while wearing your stay, so you have a permanent regency shape to work on. I'm thinking I should have done that.

I was thinking about doing that with the stays on. It would be great to be able to drape on a form with the correct shape for gathering and pleating and tucking.

You are extremely ambitious. Cording, from-scratch sewing, you must be one heck of a seamstress

I am only a mediocre seamstress, but I am a decent patternmaker. I just really like a challenge every now and then.
