My projects are all over the board right now as usual. I don't have any particular era that I stay in, although Regency, Victorian bustle, and Edwardian are my favorite. Just don't ask me to narrow it down anymore. Right now I'm binding my 1780s corset so I can make a gown to go with it, to wear to Historic Williamsburg, hopefully late this year. And I may feel confident enough to finish my Regency corset afterwards. But I want to start my 1840s gown, that is already cut out but now needs to be fitted again. And I have a fancy black Victorian Natural form gown, that the bodice is sewn, that I want to finish. It's a two-tone black striped upholstery fabric, with a black silk dupioni, I've been collecting laces and trims, and beads for two years for it. As I mentioned on another thread, I also need to make a warm cloak but haven't had time to go look for fabric for it. Since Regency is the theme era at Costume College this year, I want to do a new gown for it. I have a couple fabrics in my closet for it but need to decide what pattern, and which fabric still. It would be fun to do all Regency, but I have others I want to wear also. We do a lot of hall costuming. I have a small album with pictures of dresses and patterns I want to make, along with the swatches of fabrics to go with them, to try and keep organized. I've been stockpiling fabric for a couple years in anticipation of retirement and having less money to spend on it. But I always seem to want more. I'm learning restraint tho, until you let me loose in the Garment/Fabric District in Los Angeles again.

I finally got my stays mock up done last night. I am so glad that I am a compulsive mock up maker because I really learned a lot from the mistakes that I made on it. For example it takes a lot of lacing to be able to get into the stays without unlacing it completely. Also basting is an annoyance but it can save so much time in the end when you don't have to rip and re-sew. On to my shift and then tackling the chemise.

That's a great company to order from by the way. Good service and easy to follow patterns.

How is that frock for Master Teo? Have any progress photos to share? No progress photos so far, but I've been working on a new frock for Master Teo. This one is 18 mo. size, and in a pink plaid cotton. (But it's a manly pink... :-) I'm using the Kannik's Korner KK-9001 Infant's Clothing pattern. I've been working on it at work, while watching the computer grind through data; so it's (so far) all hand sewn. We'll see if I hand sew the long seam on the skirt... My deadline is Saturday week, when we (BAERS) has our annual Cyprian's Ball. So far, the bodice is almost complete, sleeves have been set in, and all it needs is the lining and the skirt.

Okay, It is February what is everyone working on this month?
I am working on deciding which white day gown I am going to do. I again am having trouble deciding. I am not up for embroidery yet so it has to be really simple. I have about 3-4 portraits that I am choosing from. I am also thinking about starting a gown for my DD since I saw that one this weekend. So cute.

I vote you do DD's dress first because 1) it won't take so long and 2) it will get you primed for doing your day-gown. The picnic won't be until... oh may or june, and the Marchish April tea, you can probably fake it with your ballgown if need be.
What am I working on? Nothing yet. I'm waiting for payday to roll 'round so I can make a trip to the fabric store. I think what I make will be inspired by the fabrics I find.

I have a party saturday that is about famous couples. I chose Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. I'm pulling from my stash, so hubby's jacket is not the right fabric. It's a lovely brocade leftover from a renaissance outfit I made a couple years ago, but knowing my friends they won't know or care. I haven't even started on my dress yet....I want to make it out of a lovely sari I found, but I think that I will just throw together a simple round dress...unless of course I can't sleep which happens far too often, I might just make one out of the sari. We won't probably look much like Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth, but this is just for fun.

I just feel like I should start on my gown because I know that it is going to take a while (and it is my Feb start project on my to do list)while DD's Gown is pretty straight forward. Thought I do have a couple of questions that I should post about that. Although I have to make a decision to make soon. I am just really in a hurry to start sewing again. I am having withdrawl though I told my DH that I wouldn't sew this week since I was a crazy person last week. If I start DD's gown It should be pretty quick. If you decide to go fabric shopping at Fabric Depot let me know and I can meet you there and browse with you.

If the gown is going to take a while, you could start that, and then work on DD's dress if you get stuck, need time to think about something, or have to wait for supplies to arrive. That's often how I work. (Which reminds me, I finished Teo's gown last night, and should take pictures of it.)

I finished Teo's new frock (late) last night. Here it is (18 mo. size) compared to the previous one (12 mo. size): And here he is, trying it on. (There are no undergarments, and not all the back ties are tied.)
