I am experiencing an obsession with costuming. It is almost all I think about. I dream about it. I want to make like 5 gowns all at the same time plus spenceres pellsses, a a cloak, petticoats chemises, stays, drawers, pantalettes, a cap and two bonnets and shoes and gloves. I get up to work on one thing and then I am back at the computer researching something different. I had extra money lying around I would be clearing out the fabric stores.

LOL! Cosmo, if it's an illness, I've got it too.

I tend to just immerse myself in new interests too....and to drive the people around me slightly batty with it, lol!
Hey, you know what, it's not hurting anyone....it's making you feel happy to be alive, and it's stimulating you intellectually, and giving you a creative outlet....and all these things can only make you a better person, wife, and mommy.
If you think about it, we ALL (ie: the human race) are inclined to be "addictive" personalities. For some people it's sports....or their personal appearance....or cleaning....or of course, harmful things like eating/drinking/smoking/gambling/pornography/etc.
So, I always think, hey, if I gotta be obsessed with something....I could certainly be doing worse, lol!
(although I do keep waiting hopefully for that "cleaning" obsession to strike me, lol!)

Lady S, you just made the best justification for costume obsession I've ever seen. I'm going to use it next time hubby complains re: material purchases or dining room table being dominated by sewing paraphernalia.
Hubby: "Grumble grumble where's the dining room table grumble?"
Me: "Would you rather that I lie about listless and without purpose, weeping for lack of things to make me happy?"

Lady S, I like your line of thinking! My husband never grumbles about my costuming so long as I make him something.

Cosmo, I even have a C.A.D.D. (Costume Attention Deficit Disorder) Sewing Group that meets once a month, to work on any project. I have my albums in my harddrive filled with photos of costumes, hairstyles, accessories, & patterns of 6 different eras that I love, and want to dress in. I have albums online of similar, plus photos of my fabrics. I have three shelves filled with fabrics for future projects. Two boxes of patterns. At this moment I have laying around in my room: black striped and black silk dupioni for Victorian "best black" dress, bodice is partly sewn; baby blue 1780s corset, doing final stitching on binding after taking it in; a Regency bodiced petticoat muslin; a Regency full length corset halfway done; an 1830s Romantic era gown just started; and fabric and pattern and accessories for putting together a Steampunk outfit (a cross of Victorian & Science Fiction). Now if that ain't CADD, I don't know what else to call it. I do have a sewing room so it stays all here, along with my computer. Somedays it feels a little claustrophobic. But I'm happy. It makes me smile just thinking about them.

LOL. This is a support group with absolutely NO desire to cure our disorder; we're all enabling one another instead. YAY~
