What do you all do with your hair, gentlemen included? I have realized that my hair is going to be a bit of a problem to get into a regency style so I am already practicing getting it up and condensed into a fairly small volume. Please share some pictures of your favorite hairstyles that you have done.

I (still; considering cutting it due to baby) have long hair, which I normally wear tied back in a ponytail. All I do for Regency events is tie a ribbon around the elastic. It's a bit old-fashioned, but it works. If I'm feeling very ambitious, and wearing the naval uniform, I get Lady Egg to wrap the ponytail with a couple of yards of silk ribbon. Once or twice I have (with her help) done it in side curls for a slightly earlier look. As I mentioned, I'm considering cutting it; if I do It will have to be something that can pass as a Regency hairstyle. I'll also consider growing sideburns. Here's a picture with sidecurls: goblinrevolution.org/cgi-bin/pic_frame.cgi?pic=hellfire_3.jpg;list=indicies/hellfire2006.index;base=costumes

Chris - How cute are those side curls? My hubby just got a new haircut that is very Regency friendly which is the only way that I would allow him to cut it. I don't know if he can grow sideburns though, his is fairly hairless.

I'm rotten at doing my own hair. It doesn't hold a curl without way too much glue and heat (I've crisped my front hair more times than I can count in the pursuit of curls) and it's so thick it needs to be quite long before it will bun up well. I tend to wear a lot of caps, turbans, dashing hats, bonnets, etc... However, I gussied up a friend of ours for a ball: goblinrevolution.org/cgi-bin/pic_frame.cgi?pic=cyprians.2005-03.jpg;list=indicies/cyprians2005.index;base=costumesI'd do things differently if I had another chance. Her hair was longer than I anticipated, but it kept the curl in and didn't fall down.

You have excellent taste. Goblin made that for me. ;D It was a fairly faithful version of the La Mode Bagatelle spencer with the round standing collar. I love that spencer, but I'm afraid it doesn't fit me too well just now. sniff!

I wish I had naturally curly hair. It would make life so much easier. Where did all these members come from! How exciting. I need to get back here more frequently!!!!!

I got so frustrated with trying to do anything with my hair (a pageboy style) that I cut it all off. So now I'm stuck with having to wear caps, bonnets, turbans. Except...in the BBC version of P&P there is a lovely blonde lady who is very "advanced" and has cut her hair short, like a man's. I think I'll take a gander at that again and see if it's something mine can be styled in. But I found a turban that sits at the back of the head that I'd like to make for formal wear.

Found the turban that I liked. It was a photo of Nehelenia in her costume. The photo is kind of dark, but you can see the turban sitting on the back of her head on the left. tinyurl.com/2cb65vNow if I can just find the photo online of the short haircut on P&P. Or just do a pause on my TV and photograph it.

Note the sideshow bob hair I had at the ball.

Brain fart! That's exactly what it is and not what I'm calling it.

I wear my hair shorter because of my job. With a side part. So, when in period I simply comb it forward. I have just enough wave that it actually looks fairly decent, if I do say so myself, but it may be all that does

I've been watching "Persuasion" with Amanda Root and trying to figure out how they did her hair in the back. Anyone got any ideas? I have fairly long hair (about halfway down my back,) and I'm trying to find other ways to wear it. Right now, I mostly just make a high pony tail, braid it, then wrap it around in a bun. I'd just like some alternatives, and Anne's hair in the movie looked interesting.
With regards, Barbara

I keep my hair short, not due to job restrictions, but because of the fact that the 18th century Doctor wears a wig. I sweep my hair forward for the most part anyway, so it wasn't a big stretch for me to continue to do so as the NEW 19th century Doctor: This is one of the first pictures of me in my new suit. Not quite finished yet, need a white cravat and so forth, but it's nearly completed!

If I may be so bold, you look quite dashing, Doctor!
I hope soon to have my husband's naval uniform finished. Alas, his hair is a bit thin on the top, so there is not much to be done with it. I am, however, encouraging him to grow his sideburns a bit longer.

Lady Barbara... I just put a list of really helpful hair links up on the ORS blogspot page. Check it out. oregonregency.blogspot.com/2010/02/regency-ladies-tresses.htmlI also have to be very bold and agree, the Doctor is extremely handsome in his regency attire, my goodness! Looks like he's torn right out of a period-piece (minus the camera of course... )

I thank you for your compliments ladies, the real credit goes to Bells Mill Clothier who made my fine suit. I'd keep sideburns as well, but I can't given my 18th century schedule. Fortunatley for me, there ARE some examples of gents from THIS period not having them... so that saves me.

Very nicely done, Doctor! I don't usually see men taking such care with their hair.
