Period portraits are as well as our proudly made garments a great way of time travelling! I think we should share our weblinks to portrait collections of our favourite period. Here is a link from a collection of portraits made by José Gil de Castro, who prortrayed the peruvian and chilean elites during the first part of the 19th century: www.puc.cl/faba/ARTE/MUSEO/MuseoExpoGilI.htmlIn Lima we also have museum with his work but most of it is in private hands.

Dear Giacomo,
That is a very nice collection. I was fascinated by all the portraits from the ladies' gowns to the mens' uniforms. Thank you very much for sharing that link with us.

Wow those are exceptional. It really shows how 'global' culture was even then... the fashions were spread all around the various 'colonies' and the world; each with its own regional flair. Fantastic.

I am very, very fond of marquise.de, since she covers so many periods. I also like to use the Web Gallery of Art, though that can be a little tedious. But the images are very high quality and very large.
