As August approaches, I was given a reminder that this August will mark the anniversary month that the ORS hosted its first event. That reminder was a late-arriving video shot during the ORS's first Regency Party at the Ainsworth House & Gardens on 8/24/07. The lady who'd taken the video had finally found time to sit down and process the footage, and she sent me a DVD for it. I was able to convert DVD to a Youtube compatible format using the trial verson of software; but since it was a trial version, I could only record 7 minutes of the full 16 minutes of footage. Nonetheless, here it is; please pardon the squashed appearance of the people, we're not all hobbits over here in Oregon, it was simply that I didn't do something properly to scale the letterbox format when coverting the file. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfKYuK03Y0sI think Barbara did a nice job with the movie. I wish I'd been able to do a nicer job converting it. ::sighs::

Oh Stephanie, the video is lovely!!! You did a fabulous job of editing, "tsk" to your self-deprecation! It was beautiful, really. I can't believe this was your first event. Everyone did such a great job dancing and really looked the part. How long did you practice your dances to have everyone so smooooth?
I don't know if the subscribe feature is what you were referring to, but I signed up for yours and for the Hampshire Regency Dancers (wow..England).
Thanks for the link and for posting the video. Since you might have some free time in the future with Hubby away, do you want to come to Louisville and start a Regency Society here??? Pretty Please??!??!? ;D I make a mean margarita....

I didn't make the video; a member named Barbara did. She did a wonderful job. I just converted it from DVD to Youtube, and squashed everyone for the favour. The youtube feature I speak of us a small button added to our post-reply and modify post page... you'll see what I"m talking about when you are posting next time. It's next to the insert image and other options. The dancing was mostly smooth because Laura Plett, the dance caller, arrived with many of her own dancers, and they kept the newbies from really mussing things up. There was no prior practice for the new ORS members... except Thea, Lisa & Robert who are all about ECD. I'd be glad to help you through the first steps of starting a group. It's a lot of work, but it's worth every second of your time.

That was pretty amazing of a first event. I really like your venue, too.
The music to many of these dances is now sufficiently familiar to me that my hindbrain keeps trying to remember the steps every time I hear it. :-)
I also found the link to the Hampshire Regency Dancers - I am so very jealous of them (and of most European re-enactors, come to think of it). I wish we had that level of dedication to costuming around here.
