Lauren's costume was stunning, in fact, some of the harder-core costumers (especially the Seattle crowd) were raving about it; they were gushing about the meticulous hand-stitching and relating it to the portraits Lauren had been inspired by, and asking me about her, she was most-popular; hedgehog hair and all. Wow, I'm still floored at the success of the ball. 90 people (possibly more, we're still not sure), the band :::swoooooon::: the food.... I'm so proud. Pictures will soon follow.

Steph, your gown was pretty too. I like the inset on the bodice.

Steph, your gown was pretty too. I like the inset on the bodice. Thanks Val. I do confess though my gown was a complete sham. I sewed it in two evenings after work two nights before the ball. I had no time to buy super-fine needles, so there are pulls and snags all over it, and the fabric beneath the black voile is also just as damaged. Luckily it was dark and nobody could see how badly made it was (thank God). I originally wanted to make two separate garments, but I ended up just cutting and sewing them together. I had no time. I didn't make any special attempts to make it look nice inside or out, the inside looks like a disaster. The inset on the bodice was an act of desperation.. because even with the DD extension on the bagatelle pattern, it was too small to contain me, so I was faced with a crossover with ample spillage. So I took some of the fabric that I used for the 'lining' gown, and bought some black lace to overlay it, and made the inset quickly. I pinned it to my franken-corset, and then put the gown on over it. Funny thing is, people loved it. Nobody noticed that the trim and the back seam was crooked, or that there was a fairly sizable slit in the front. LOL.

Steph, well whether or not it was quality construction it certainly photgraphed well and the style really suits you. I imagine that it would have been smashing if you had had time to fit and sew it properly.

My Dear Allseeing, Your Ball looked like a wonderful time with many lovely people. I was somewhat surprised to see a couple of the male gender in the presence of ladies, let alone in public, in nothing but their shirt sleeves Exposing of underclothes should not do They should consider themselves fortunate there were no constables or military officers in the area or they would have surely found themselves in great regrets You truly are amazing at putting together events. I should make one of your events, they really look like a lot of fun! Hopefully I will be able to arrange it one day. Thank you for sharing your photos.

We had two newspapers present at the ball Saturday before last. The Portland Tribune and the Oregonian's "Scene" magazine. The Trib was the first to produce an article on the event, and I dare say it is a very good article. They quoted me A LOT... but they also touched on a few of the members, and took pictures of Kay and Susannah, who are amazing costumers. Here it is: www.portlandtribune.com/features/story.php?story_id=122713573693154400Sweet.

Well, the practical (and not selfish on my part in the very least of course) solution would be for you to move out here and start an 1812 group here ::coff coff ahem::. ::teehee::
