I wasn't sure where to post this, so it's going to live here for now :-) Anyway, I was wondering if any of you ladies, or gentleman, have a tutorial for late 18th century hair. The one I'm currently wanted to try is called the Hedgehog, but I can't find a place that tells me how to do it. Any imput would be nice :-)

I"m planning on using my own hair, cause it should be long enough. Thanks so much :-) Oh, and I'm also wanting to do the ratted and brushed out version. Big hair, yeah!

OK, I've seen it done on a real person. I remember they said don't wash your hair the day you're doing it; put your hair up in big rollers, steam type, about 6 hrs beforehand to give it poof. Then they put mousse in, and started ratting until it was big, round, and poofy, then a good finish of hairspray, like Hair Net. Most pinned two long 12" curls down the back. I've put out a request for help to my LiveJournal costumers, so I'll let you know what I hear. Katherine (Koshka the Cat) did her own hair but she doesn't have a tutorial on it that I can find. Warning, when you finally wash it out, they recommend you put a lot of conditioner on it for awhile prior to washing it.

Lauren, after seeing your pictures, and then reading Steph's comment about your "hedgehog hair", I'm not sure if we're talking about different hairstyles, and I may be searching for the wrong thing. The style in your photo is a "poof" as seen on these two instructional pages www.demodecouture.com/pouf/and here georgianaduchessofdevonshire.blogspot.com/2008/06/hair-how-tos.html If this is what you were talking about, then I'll quit looking. The "hedgehog" was a big bushy curly roundish style that was worn with the chemise dress.

I wanted the hedgehog (poofy, curly, rounded Madame Lavoisier hair) buy my hair just wouldn't do it. So I poofed it around a form for a quick fix. I still really want to learn how to hedgehog it though... Thanks :-)
