We are planning a Regency event for sometime next year and need some ideas for simple costumes for the men who don't want to go all out. Does anyone have some ideas to make their formal wear more regency friendly without sewing them an entire wardrobe?

We are planning a Regency event for sometime next year and need some ideas for simple costumes for the men who don't want to go all out. Does anyone have some ideas to make their formal wear more regency friendly without sewing them an entire wardrobe? How formal is the wear you have to start with? Suit? Tuxedo? Tails? The simplest addition is probably to sew a Regency style waistcoat, with a stand collar and squared-off front. That plus a white handkerchief 36"x36" as a neck-cloth will do a lot to make a modern tailcoat look more period. White or pale colored trousers instead of the standard black, help, too.

I realise its been a year since I first posted this question but plans for the event got sidelined for a while. Now it is back on and is actually next month. Those closely associated with the event will be in full regency attire, but there are many invited that don't know a lot about regency. The invitation suggested light pants, tails if possible and a white dress shirt, the plan now is to have them flip the collar and the host is providing cravats for all. So my new question is, what are the demensions for a cravat? I don't know much about them but for some reason(probably a brief moment of insanity) I volunteered to make cards with the instructions on how to put them on. The host knows how to tie them so he can help, but by any chance does anyone know of any drawn insturctions? Ive seen pictures but they wouldnt look that great on a card, thanks!
