I have a linen gown that is starting to look faded. However it is in good, wearable shape. I would like to try dyeing the gown to revive it's color. Has anyone ever tried to dye linen or other fabrics? Do you have any advice or pointers to share? I've been googling for information on dyeing linen, but the information out there is overwhelming and much of it is different. Any guidance that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

In my experience, dyeing linen works the same as dyeing cotton. Especially as this is a used gown that may have grease or other invisible spots that may inhibit absorption of dye, you will need to wash it in Synthrapol first. Twice, if you want to be really safe. Synthrapol is a detergent dyers use and it is really excellent; you can use the rest up on your regular wash loads. The dye you need is called Procion dye and the pre-mixed colors, which are easiest, are called Procion MX. For instructions and products, see www.dharmatrading.com. I buy from them often.
