Greetings To the Ladies and Gentlemen of this Most Esteemed Assembly, May I be so bold as to present my card? It's that unassuming one tucked in the corner of the tray. The name on it being, Miss Sidney Wentworth (for the time being, that is). Yes, I am Captain Frederick Wentworth's other sister--the one they don't talk about (should I have said that?)
For a long time the family feared I was lost at sea. Since that fateful day, I fear I have had quite a few adventures, traveled far and wide across the globe. and had the honour to meet all manner of folk. I was rescued from the perils of a wayward life by the captain of HMS St. Elmo and brought home...Le sigh...
I am now writing my memoirs. I had planned to call the volumes, "Romancing The Royal Navy," but was (ahem) *persuaded* otherwise. My brother can be such a prude at times. I have a special place in my heart for our men in blue, of course. I also enjoy dabbling in stay-making and am quite handy with the needle. But I prefer above all, writing my lovely romances--I mean, memoirs--when I can tear myself away from the Naval Chronicles *another, le sigh...*).
I am most happy to join this forum for the Regency Obsessed, and I hope that I can, in some small, way share in the illuminating discussions therein.
Yr affectionate and obliged servant,
Miss Sidney Wentworth,

My lady, welcome. I am excited that you have chosen to grace us. These romances--I mean, memoirs-- will you be sharing them with us? I would hope so as I do love to read

As a self described "prude" I'm surprised at your comment Lady Sarah

I am a prude who loves romances. Good clean ones that are really hard to find and have me resorting to fanfiction

Miss Wentworth, I bid you the heartiest of welcomes to the Regency Society of America, and I hope you are already involved in the Oregon Regency Society?
Stephanie J.
And Lady Sarah, there is othing a tall prudish about a desire for 'clean' romance novels. The only good romance novels are the ones that can stand up on their own without resorting to bedroom scenes for interest. That's the beauty of Austen. No smut, just pure 100% clever, brilliant writing, dialogues and interchanges.

Oh I do hope my comment wasn't misunderstood! It was meant in a light gentle teasing manner. Having read Ms Waterman's diary I knew what she meant when she said 'romance'. It is quite hard to find a true romance these days, that doesn't contain, as our dear All Seeing eloquently put it, Smut. I do love Tom Lehrer's song "smut" though Well any song by him is pretty awesome...

In no way was it misunderstood. I was just sad that it is hard to find good romance that is clean.

Thank you all for the heartiest of welcomes! After THE Miss Austen, I heart Georgette Heyer...the bedroom door closes in our faces (ever so genteely, though).
