Hello. I'm a longtime fan of regency literature, with very little experience in reenactment of this era (lots in other eras). I am extremely interested in finding a group of like-minded people in SE Michigan or the Toledo, Ohio area. I enjoy costuming, role-playing, dancing (though I have a lot to learn in this area!), and pretty much everything about the time. Excited to find this site - hope it bears fruit! :)
Best -

Welcome! I am, unfortunately, in Utah. But I hope you are able to connect with people closer to you. This site is a wealth of knowledge.

You are in an area were a lot of bicentennial activities are coming up for The War of 1812. Start Googling the topic and all kinds of things will come up. I highly suggest you contact the group based at Fort Meigs: The 19th U.S. Regiment of Infantry. They’re a wonderful group of people. www.19thus.com/

I wonder if I can find anything a little less... military? I'm more interested in dancing and civilized things - no offense to those who enjoy military things! It's just not my cup of tea.

Do you have friends who are interested in the same things? You might be able to form your own group. That's what we did here in Nebraska. There was no one doing what we were interested in. We're still a small group, but we are slowly gathering steam. :-)

Chuckle! Have you talked to them? Ask them about “civilian activities”. Really: They’re lovely people; and there are lots of activities and events that don’t involve cannons and guns and marching. This is the group that Betsy Bashore belongs to. She’s the amazing lady who has done the fashion shows at the Jane Austen Festival in Louisville. The section on “Women’s Clothing” on the web site is her research. Sadly, I live much too far away to consider becoming a regular member of the group but I love attending their clothing conference at Ft. Meigs each year. Look into local Jane Austen societies as well: www.jasna.org/index.html
