I was thinking about traveling to this one, but alas, with the Ball that I was railroaded...uh...volunteered to host I don't think I can do both within 2 weeks of each other. So I'm starting to plan for it for next year.

A Regency Bonnet Workshop Saturday, April 26, 2008 ~ 11:00 AM @ the Mount Hood Village Resort Brightwood, Oregon Fireside Room $7 for Room Fee
Build a standard poke bonnet, or a Stovepipe Bonnet in this fun crafty workshop. We will be constructing them from sun-hats. Let your creative skills go wild!
I will be providing a free pattern for the stovepipe poke, as well as providing patterns of caps to trace. I will have my portable sewing machine on hand, as well as other supplies; but be sure to download your supply list so you know what you need to bring.
Please add to the list (I forgot): Narrow bias tape or ribbon in desired colour to edge the brim, and a short length of thin, standard craft ribbon for gathering the crown if you're going to make the poke bonnet. I'll bring extra just in case. Be sure to pick fabrics or remnants that you really like for your bonnet, and that your trims and decorations coordinate!
Light refreshments and snacks will be provided by me, however you should feel free to bring your own lunch and other items. There is a decent restaurant on site, plus a gift shop that sells snacks and soft drinks. Plenty of parking.

The Bonnet workshop was great fun. There were 11 of us in all, and we made a great mess of scraps and straw on the floor, and produced a variety of bonnets. Some folks attempted the stovepipe, only one was completed, but I will receive pictures when the projects are finished. We also had a wonderful laugh, and chatted non-stop for six hours. It was a tremendous time.
Hee!

Pictures of the workshop silliness. I sort of stopped taking pictures after a while, so there are few finished product pictures (if any at all). The attendees promised to provide more when they finished all the final details at home. www.flickr.com/photos/herodyssey/sets/72157604779713787/

Fun, fun, fun!!!!
I want to play! (Harrumph!)
Seriously, It looks like you put on an amazing day. I can't wait to see pictures of more of the finished bonnets. I spent last night going through screen shots of JA movies to find bonnets/hats I wanted to try.
Alas, it is not as much fun when one is without playmates...

How fun! I would have loved to be there. I've been thinking about having a bonnet class for my guild, and this may get me off my butt and do something about it. We have a meeting tonite so I think I'll make the suggestion of having it at my house in a few weeks.
