Hello. I made a gown for my aunt for the November ball, and I am not selling it for her to at least recoup the cost of the materials. She insisted on the Butterick History Empire Regency Gown Pattern (I will post a review on the pattern reviews thread now that I think of it).
I cut the pieces as a size 10, and it came out smaller. I had to expand the dress to accomodate my aunt, but then I have turned those expansions into the dress and returned it to its original size. It is not a ten, that I"m sure of. The waist (around the chest) is 30" and the bust is 32". I made the dress, but I was dismayed at it lacked the gather at the back, so I modified the pattern as I made the over-dress/pelisse, and included some volume in the second piece.
It's two dresses in one. A day-dress of creamy tan, with a cream-lace at the neck and a nice ribbon detail at the hem. The dress has a short train.
The over-dress/pelisse is of a stretch lace (not fun to work with). It dresses up that day-dress and makes it quite regal. I washed them both in woolite, and so the trims need to be ironed out carefully; but you can see, it's not horrible; it looked rather nice on my aunt.
There is some staining on the bottom inner edge of the hem, of course, but it still looks nice.
It's like an size 6-8. My aunt is pretty short, shorter than me, I'm 5'4 and she's probably 5'2 or 5'3. It's hemmed for her, so you have to be a tiny, petite thing to fit this dress. I had to take in the pelisse in the clumsiest way possible, given what i was left to work with, so I have to apologize ahead of time for the less-than-quality alterations.
Here are some pictures of it, both with and without the pelisse over it:
I am selling it for $100 (materials were about that cost, a bit more but who cares?). If you want it, let me know, otherwise it's going up on Ebay.
My aunt in the dress. Her turban doesn't look well at all.
It also comes with a matching reticule if i can find it.
