Where do you get your printed fabrics? I would love to have a printed day dress that was somewhat authentic.

Go to B-Sharp fabrics; Fabric Depot has some 'authentic' 1800s reproductions and you can find lots online as well. Or, go to www.reproductionfabrics.com/shelf.php?ID=3Prints were mostly used for day-dresses. They were rarely used for ballgowns and evening wear

thanks. I was so bummed that b-sharp is closing their storefront. Have you ordered anything from reproductionfabrics.com?

I know. Truly sad. And no, I haven't ordered anything from repro-fabrics. I got mine from the Fabric Depot.

Brenna rocks. She's going to keep her shop open online... so you can still buy product from her.

I am definitely going to keep her in mind for boning for my stays, but I have a thing about ordering fabrics online. I have to touch it before I can buy it and seeing it in a swatch isn't ever enough.

Yeah, that is a great store, I went there before the ball, they really have a huge inventory and they carry things that other stores don't.
I agree. Mill End Rules.

I work less than five minutes from their door. It's horrible temptation.

How do you get any work done? When I worked near the Ocean in LA all I could think of all day was how near I was to it and why wasn't I there instead of at work. It was torture.

I know. Trust me... I know. They have a HUGE space and it's chock full of stuff. As you can imagine their wool selections are fantastico.

Luckily for me when I go to fabric stores my animal product free lifestyle limits my fabric choices to cottons, linens, and synthetics for the most part. I have a hard enough time making decisions with just those fibers to choose from. If I hadthe whole store to consider I would be useless.

I don't like using synthetics at all either; not just for purity but simply because it doesn't look accurate. I've seen regency costumes done in synthetics, and it just doesn't look like it should. However, I have to confess using some brocades of questionable materials... but sometimes dollars just limit your choices too.

I have found some very nice synthetic satins/taffetas that aren't to shiny/gross for about $13-$18 a yard when I was looking in LA. So if I have to do a poly-satin for my gown I know I will be able to find something decent if I look hard enough. I must spare the poor silk worms.

Well, I made it to Mill End today and it was impressive. By the time I left I was pretty sure that my brain was dripping out of my ears due to sensory overload. I found quite a few things that I am anticipating making into something. Pretty exciting afternoon it was.

If money is no object, and you laugh at the current exchange rate with Europe, there is www.durantextiles.com/index.asp, which makes reproduction 18th century prints, cotton, and silk. The pictures alone are worth a look.
