I am trying to base my corset and am having a bit of trouble getting all of the seams to stay lined up. I am hesitant to baste through the seams because I don't want the thread to be stuck when I sew it. How do you base multiple layers together so that the seams stay nice?

I either baste in the seam allowance (if it's 5/8ths seam allowance, I baste at 1/2"), or I baste along the seam and then carefully pick out the basting where the thread is stuck. :-) It's tedious, but I'm picky that way.
Or I don't baste at all and just use all the pins in the house....

Is this basting the lining and the outer fabric together? I was taught to actually stab stitch right through the seam (stitch in the ditch) from the outer layer to the lining layer and back again. I do this by hand down all the seams. There's no way anything will shift out of position after that! It will however, point out your inconsistancies in seam allowances if you sadly discover the right hand panel will not lay flat over the lining because too much seam allowance was taken in the lining.
