I am in the middle of making my short stay-I cannot get piece 7 and 8 to go together....if I make a seam, one piece looks like a smile and the other looks like a frown.......so they do not match at the double notch....I have double check the pattern pieces and have cut them out correctly.... Anybody have any suggestions? PLEASE.......

Hi Cindy, It's Melissa (Tess on the boards). I sent you me cell via email. Call me re: your stay. You need to clip the curve to be able to pin it for sewing. I can explain it to you better in person I think.
If we don't connect, then what you do is clip about 3/8 to 1/2 in around the curve on one piece, clipping every 1/2 inch or so along the length of the curve. Then start pinning the clipped pc. along the edge of the unclipped pc, sort of stretching as you go until the final ends meet together. As I remember on the stay, you may have to ease the curve a little to get the ends to match perfectly.
Call me with questions...I'm out of the house, and i dont have your number with me.

Cindy, I just realized that my email won't "send" as I'm out at a coffee shop (I've got some weird glitch in hit right now). So....I'll be checking the boards here.
Re: clipping. If you are using coutil, you shouldn't need to, but if you are using another fabric or a fashion fabric for one of your layers, you will want to run a staying stitch around the curve to clip into, but not through. It will both guide how deep you cut, and also keep the edge from fraying. I used two layers of coutil for my stay and didn't use a stay stitch on curves.

I just made sure the bottom line of the stays was even. To heck with the arm-hole. I'm not sure if that's the piece you mean but I think it is.

Hey ladies, you can also get some help on the creator of the pattern who loaned it to Simplicity form: Sensibility.com, I am on those forms as well as this one, I have not yet made the stays but the ladies on the form (I am one of them) are all really helpful, and there are quite a few of them who have made the stays and have had them come out beautifully. ~Lady Elizabeth
