Some friends of mine who work as dressers in the theatre were helping me fit my Regency gown, and I was bemoaning the fact that my girls keep wanting to slid back into the bottom of my bodice. They told me about a trick they use in the theatre for the actors with the same problem, or improper underclothes. Using a rolled up towel or washcloth, depending on your size, put it inside the bodice just under the girls. This way the girls rest on it and have a shelf. **I think a full size towel or hand towel need to be cut into a square for this to work*** The towel is rolled starting at a diagonal corner, so when it's done being rolled, it's narrow on the ends. The "point" will be in the center of the girls. This also helps with perspiration. I used a washcloth but I think a handtowel, cut in a square, would give more lift. Anther trick for cooling off is using little baggies of ice tucked in different places. The actors sometimes need to wear very heavy clothes in high temperatures, so these baggies were placed inside pant legs and bodices.
