So, I'm trying to be more Regency and perfect my handwriting. Frankly, my handwriting looks like it has been butchered by an angy pen :-P Does anyone know of any good links on how to learn calligraphy and nice handwriting? Thanks :-)

My mother (born in 1951) said once that in school they were taught handwriting starting by drawing circles, around and around, to practice the shape you want when you write cursive.
I dunno if that'll help, or anything. Calligraphy is completely different from cursive or handwriting, and is really closer to art than anything else. You lay out all of your letters beforehand, you are very careful of the angle of your pen and everything. So you're probably not looking for that so much. If you do want something like that, there are books of fonts and the like. Any art store should have books of letters and nibs and ink. If you can find one, the Pilot Parallel Pens are very, very good for calligraphy, because they have a much better nib than the felt tip calligraphy pens, but they're very easy to use, especially compared to dip pens.

Thanks :-) I will certainly be prowling the art stores around Portland :-P
BTW are you going to the picnic this Sunday? It should be sooo much fun.

Thank you, cosmo. Are you going to be at the picnic on Sunday, or have you moved?

I am have not moved yet, but I don't think that I am going to be able to go because I do not have a day gown made because I was supposed to have moved already. Nor do I have any gown for my daughter to wear. I don't have picnic things either. I am all together unprepared, though I would love to go.

Ack! I completely forgot! Uh..... If I don't have any plans made already? Not that I have a costume, but that's ok, right?

Of course that's all right. We'll be there at noon. The Ladies Tea Guild will be dovetailing their event with ours, and they will not all be in Regency garb---Nobody needs to be in regency costume, it's just part of the fun.

My mother (born in 1951) said once that in school they were taught handwriting starting by drawing circles, around and around, to practice the shape you want when you write cursive. Wow!!! My grandmother was my teacher as I was home schooled, and that was how I learned to write. I hated doing circles and up-and-down strokes. So, as a result, my handwriting is so bad, I can't even read what I write half the time! ;D

Neat! I think we learned cursive from tracing booklets, and that sort of thing, and then we were left to sort out the rest on our own.
