Hi all! I've recently started working at the Button Emporium and Ribbonry in Portland, and it looks like I'm going to start teaching some workshops or classes. I was thinking there might be some interest in historical costuming-oriented ones. For instance, bonnet trimming? Or perhaps even, bonnet making and trimming? A fitting workshop, so everyone can pin everyone else's hard to reach places?
Interest? Suggestions? I'll also be teaching some ribbon flowers classes.
If you'd like to just come in and say hi, we're between 10th and 11th on SW Taylor.

I'm interested in learning silk ribbon embroidery. Is that something that would fall in line with your classes? I think it might also align with Regency artform as well. The ribbon flower making sounds interesting too.

Well, I've never done it, but I do want to learn and when I did I would definitely add it to the repertoire. So, alas! Not just now! But seriously, about every other day at work I am eyeing the ribbon embroidery books and supplies.
Honestly, from what I've flipped through, it doesn't look all that hard. We have some really beautifully photographed books and all the ribbon you could want to start with. I work T/F/Sat, you should come in and say hello, and I'll get you set up!

Laura King is proficient at making ribbon blooms. She has a pretty strenuous work schedule, but I'm fairly sure she'd be willing to do a workshop given enough notice.
Email me for her email if you are interested.

Actually, my intention is that I will be teaching these workshops. The Button Emporium used to do classes, but the owner burned out on teaching and when I was hired she started making noise that I should take over the classes.

Sorry Anna... I didn't read the whole post obviously. I'd gladly advertise workshops to members of the ORS>

It's ok! Would you be interested in collaborating on a bonnet making/decorating class? We don't have much work space, is the only problem.
