I was reading through my volume of Punch last night and a thought popped in my head: Maybe the RSA could have a magazine like Punch. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, Punch was a weekly British magazine known for its sophisticated humor and satires. The magazine also featured social commentary, poems, illustrations, and more. You can learn more here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_London_CharivariSo perhaps the RSA could have a magazine (online if that is more doable) like it? Something like the Regent Punch? Or Regent Punchinello (Punchinello was the name of the American spinoff of Punch)?

What a fascinating idea. I used to be part of a magazine for while with some friends, it was a magazine dedicated to women & art(all sorts of art, not just paintings, but photography, writing, etc). Sadly, we had to give it up, but it was great run.

That sounded like a great magazine! Perhaps we can incoporate some of those ideas into the regency magazine if it runs? Like a section for women and a section for arts?

Some questions about the magazine: what sections would be included? Who would write for the magazine? And who would would put the magazine together?

I'm in! I love writing and love Regency. So getting to write a magazine about Regency would rock. Has anyone checked out the magazine "Jane Austen's Regency World"? We could do something like that. But perhaps a weekly one like Punch would be a bit excessive. Maybe a Monthly Magazine?? I have always wanted a subscription to this magazine. But alas I don't like in the UK and shipping can be pricey. Here's the like to the Regency Magazine... www.janeaustenmagazine.co.uk/index.html

I think I am going to order an issue or maybe two of the back issues, cheaper than ordering a subscription to get an idea of what the whole magazine looks like.
A monthly or quarterly magazines would work far better than a weekly one. There are two ways that we could go about it, we could have it be printed or have it be an electronic magazine. If its printed, I think that we should charge a small fee to cover the cost of printing and shipping.
For sections perhaps: Fashion, Editorial, Art/Crafts, Food/Cuisine, Cultural, Advice Column......
uhm... events? Classifieds(for people who have dresses, or accessories or patterns for sale).

Why not utilize something like this forum or a new forum, they're free, with easy access and there would be no costs incurred.

Yes, that's what I meant by electronic.

Perhaps we could have both options, printed and electronic? Or maybe we should take a poll and see what everyone would prefer?

Yes, I think those would make great sections. Moreover, I think we can have some regular columns and some columns that are not.
I think for now, it would be best to have the magazine electronic as it's cheap, free, and fast. Perhaps it can be in a pdf document (like the Casebook Examiner).
Also, I was thinking that there would be a board of editors/proofreaders; you know, people to make sure the magazine looks nice and all. Of course, I think anyone who is interested can write/draw (it would be nice to have some illustrations too!) for the magazine if they want to.

Perhaps we could have themes for each issue?? That way the regular columns would have a focus, and there could be special articles, etc based on the theme.

You are right, it would be better to have it electronic, that way we can see how much interest there is without putting out too much expense, if any.

I have a lot of research that I have pulled together for my Senior Thesis. I even have info on the Language of fans. How to fold letters... all sorts. I have instructions for whist and fargo. Just let me know I'm up for anything.

This is a fantastic idea! If you want to spearhead this, Miss Mirabelle, just let one of the moderators know it's ready to go and we can provide a place for it

Celticgoddess81, those are the sorts of things I would be interested in. Along with Regency manners, fashions, pass times, entertaining...I've also run across articles on The Language of Flowers.

While I do not have experience writing Regency articles, I do have experience writing for an online magazine, I also have a lot of experience with editing and proof reading, and am a photographer as one of my part time jobs. So, anyway that I can help.

Anyways, anyone who's interested should state so in this thread and what they'd like to do (write articles, draw illustrations, create the pdf file, etc). I'm not too experienced with creating magazines, so I think someone who's more experience should be the "head" of the project. I'll be happy to be the proofreader/editor and person who looks over the overall magazine and make sure it's nice, neat, and readable (the exact term escapes me at the moment).

My husband is an IT wizard, I can probably get him to teach me how to create PDFs for this, I wouldn't mind being on the board, and writing articles. I love to cook, so perhaps I could write a column with recipes that I also try giving the recipe and my review of it??
