Hello everyone ^_^ Just thought I’d drop a line and let you all know how impressed I am with this site! I originally had been researching men’s waistcoats and patterns to sew when I came across this site. I bought Rocking Horse Farms’ Gentlemen’s Double Breasted Waistcoat pattern and I am going to make the garment for my hubby for Danish Days in Solvang, CA. I was instantly enamored with the regency period with all the fancy-shmacy clothes, etiquette and such. I must say as a home sewer, I am humbled by the quality of garments many of the experienced members have constructed. I’ve seen beautiful stays and amazing dresses and uniforms…and I’m only making a “vest” I’m glad to have this forum to come to for info. on the period. Now I only wish hubby would be interested in doing period things. I suppose I’ll just have to live vicariously through others ^_^
Thanks for reading, Nightingale ^_^

Nightingale, I am slowly warping my hubby into the living history geek thing. He's naturally a computer geek, but he agreed to one event with me. Next thing he knew, he was going to two events... eventually we'll get him so warped he'll be offering his arm every time we leave the house and begging for a frock coat and top hat. It's not entirely impossible.

LOL, Heidi! I have to work on getting my boyfriend interested in the regency. Keep working on him, I am sure he will be completely won over in no time! Welcome, Nightingale! I am sure you can get your husband interested in doing period things.

LOL,"...warping my husband..." I might be able to "warp" my hubby very slowly. First a waistcoat then top hat and tails... he'll never know what hit him ^_^ (hee, hee) Thank you both for the welcome, this such a great place! Nightingale

My husband loves the Horatio Hornblower series, the Master and Commander series, and now the Bolitho series of books. All it took for me to get him interested in what I was doing was pointing out these all take place in or near the Regency period, and he would look quite fine in a Naval uniform!
Our problem is we don't have a Regency group in the area, so there aren't many places to wear these things. :-(

The more husbands, boyfriends, brothers, etc. that get warped in to this the better, in my opinion.
C.S. Forester's Hornblower books are what got me started on the English Regency, too.

Well, I must say, I did coax my hubby into wearing a pair of breeches made from a pair of dress slacks that had been shortened and cuffed below the knee. Yes it had a fly front since modern apparel tends to do that ^_^ but the elongated waistcoat covered that up nicely. He even wore long, white socks (stockings) and garters! I must say I couldn't keep my eyes off of his most attractive calves and found myself walking behind him admiring them so ^_^ Oh, I dressed up too but to just look at my man in his breeches and stocking made me smile quite broadly. Say, I wonder if you men have felt the warm stares of a woman's gaze appreciating your shapely legs ^_^ I'm simply swooning at the thought!! Anyway, thankies for your kind replies, Nightingale
