California prices are INSANE. That's why so many Callie plates are festooning our roads these days, and why there are Callie-owned developers moving in on our farmlands. Tell me about it. We live in an 18 yr old 1500 sq foot house, and it's valued at $610K. IT IS NOT WORTH IT. I sure wish we could sell it and take the money and run somewhere, and buy us a dreamhouse Craftsman or Victorian. But alas, hubby is still working, and I could never leave all the costuming/tea stuff I have going here. Firm on that decision. Yup.

Nine million dollars is expensive even for California. But it does seem gorgeous. I have to ask Lady Egg what she thinks of the kitchen layout, though, before commenting on how liveable it really is. :-) Houses on the Royal Crescent in Bath occasionally come up for sale. I wonder how much they go for? With 9M, you could build something pretty spectacular, but it won't be in the heart of London. I'm a country-girl by heart anyway... can't stand the noise of a city. I'll have to content myself with my 800 sq. ft. cottage by the mountain. Can't beat the whopping price of $114,900 (four years ago, it's 'supposedly' worth almost 2x as much now). And it's got a nice quiet, forested quarter acre too. Being poor isn't so bad. ::smirk:: BUT When my book is optioned for a multi-million dollar movie (and it's going to happen, mark my words... ::smirk: Then I'll build my elizabethan manor with period furnishings somewhere quiet, with Friesians, Dales ponies and a fat donkey cantering over the pastures. Ahhh.... Dear Allseeing, When your multi-million dollar movie deal comes through, as I know it will as well, and you have your manor, I do hope you'll have a Ball and invite us poorly folks ;D

Speaking of houses, I have been looking for regency style (georgian) floorplans to build new. Anyone seen anything of the like? Everything down here is that mediterainan/spanish style. I hate it!!! Not a single home around here that is to my liking. But I can't find any magazines or catalogs to build my own either. Any suggestions?

California prices are INSANE. That's why so many Callie plates are festooning our roads these days, and why there are Callie-owned developers moving in on our farmlands. Priced themselves right out of the market. Scary. I hope this development boom stops soon, they just covered an entire hill in houses in Happy Valley... Looks like poop. And the traffic has gotten so bad. I suppose I shouldn't be pleased that most of the newly built homes and lots sit empty because the market has tanked... but deep down, I am. California prices are insane. What's worse, it's catching, and one finds oneself looking at a two-bedroom for $650k and thinking "Ooh, what a deal!" When we had some work done on our house, the contractor said he would never buy one of the newer houses (from the late nineties building boom and onwards) because they're built with wood that hasn't cured properly (green wood essentially) because of the rush. After a few years these three-quarter-million-dollar homes are cracking the plaster off the walls. Over priced, poorly constructed mushroom-homes.

I love the house. I wish I could have something like it. I am so in love with it, I eat breath and think it at the mo. My guy is waffling a bit, saying that another Victorian one we saw in Nottinghill is more reasonable and perhaps in a better neighbourhood for us :/ www.sothebyshomes.com/london/sales/0121541

It's very tasteful. Roomier too. But I prefer the first, the courtyard alone...
