I have recently gotten interested in the time period and was delighted to find this resource. I am on the East Coast, the Outer Banks to be exact and have no group with in easy reach (two hours to the nearest fabric store).
I am handy with a needle, both simple sewing and needle work. Enjoy costume research and can depart from basic patterns. Alas I do not have the skill,or eye, for drafting patterns.
My DH is interested in things military and between him and three very active children to dress I plan to keep it as simple as possible. Of course this doesn't mean that I won't lust I mean desire after the lovely silks and muslins. O well the kids will grow up some time ;D
Your most humble and obedient servant, Michaela

Welcome, Michaela! I know what it's like to be isolated from an active group. To counter that, I am starting a new group! (I'm in Nebraska, so no help for you, but it's something you might think of doing at some point.) As far as fabric goes, I order most of mine on-line. I just found some lovely embroidered linen at: Fashion Fabrics Club, www.fashionfabricsclub.com/catalog_items.aspx?TypID=136You have to look through what they have to find period appropriate fabrics, and watch for sales! I got my linen for $4.95 a yard! There are also a lot of other on-line fabric stores worth checking. Have fun, and enjoy this site! I'm like a kid in a candy store here!
