I just visited this exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art last week, and it was really great! My best friend was smarter than I, and waited to buy the book online (I paid full price and sales tax, yikes!), but the book is wonderful. I had a lot of issues with the design of the exhibit itself. The collection was displayed in hideous battleship gray "crates" which made it difficult to see the whole garments and in many cases it was impossible to see the details because they were shadowed and poorly lit. The pieces themselves are really gorgeous, however! I love this book; the pieces are well photographed and there are many close ups which clarified a lot of questions I had when I was in the museum. There are lots of men's garments in the collection, including several from the 1790s-1820s. www.amazon.com/Fashioning-Fashion-European-Dress-Detail/dp/3791350625/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293227090&sr=8-1
