Well, it's too late now, but for future reference anyway, though I've never stayed in one, I'd still recommend any of the Mcmenamins pubs/hotels. They're all nice restored old buildings-- and lots going on to go see and do before you've even left the building (movies, pubs, bars, saunas, whatever, that type of thing-- not in all of them). I think they've got places in Seattle too, so you're probably well aware of them. Here in Portland there's the White Eagle, one of the oldest former brothels / current pubs in Portland, supposedly haunted, with an entrance into the Shanghai Tunnels where they used to shanghai drunk people and ship them off as sailors in the old days. You can tour the tunnels. And there's Kennedy School, and... well here's the website: www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?type=hotel

We ended up at the Monaco and it was lovely! A bit of a madhouse as actors and writers from 2 movies being filmed in portland were in residence there, as well as shaquile o'neil and the rest of his team Good times
