I think, I hope, this is the right the location for this thread...
So a group of ladies scattered across the southern United States and I are talking about putting on a Regency ball. Right now our main concern is whether we can find enough people that would be interested in attending, if we do find there is a significant number of people interested we are going to go through with it and try to find a location that would be close to everyone. Right now we have a couple people in Tennessee and a couple people in Ohio that are gung ho about the ball but obviously 4 people is not enough. So distance issue's aside would anyone be interested in attending a ball located somewhere on this side of the country? If you would could you please leave your name, location and anything else you would like just so we can get an idea. Also if any of you know of someone that may be interested it would be lovely if you mentioned this to them! We are trying to get as many people as possible interested in this event. Thanks you guys!

I would be interested. It would depend on when and where, etc. I would be traveling from Nebraska. Are you aware of the Regency Ball in Lansing, MI coming up next month? You can get a glimpse here: regencyexhibitionball.blogspot.com/index.html

Oh thank you Major, I figured you of all people would be interested. At the earliest the ball would not be held until the autumn of this year or late, late summer I suppose, but could be put off until the early spring of '09. Right now we haven't a clue as to where it will be held but after I gather the responses I will be sure to let you know what we have decided, and of course I will fight to have the ball within a reasonable driving distance from Nebraska, just so you may attend, I know you do not see much in terms of balls out in the Great Plains.
Oh yes I am very much excited for the ball in Lansing! I have just started making an amazing ball gown to wear, seeing as it will be my first Regency event I wanted it to be a bit special.

Dear Miss Credit,
I am told that the Ball in Lansing is a wonderful event. And I am quite sure the gown you make will be amazing indeed.
Certainly the Ball will be special for you being your first one. I had hoped to attend myself, but alas, it is not to be this year. It is only two weeks following an event that I am hosting and my schedule will not permit it. Perhaps next year.
If you do have a Ball, I will do whatever I can to attend. Good luck!

Once you get the details tied up, let me know and I'll promo it on the ORS and the RSA site for you.
I'm sure you can do it if you plan it far out enough so that people can arrange for travel. It will have to be a rather massive event though, to make it worth sitting in the Southwest cattle-call. Find a spectacular location and you probably will sell out of tickets.
As my aunt said to me: If you set it up, they will come (in a whisper, while I gazed out at a cornfield).

I went to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, the most BEAUTIFUL campus on earth. I'm not sure if you'd want to leave Tennessee or Ohio, or that it might not be a perfect middle (thought it's on the southern left hand of Indiana) -- but truthfully, I have always fantasized about a Regency ball in the ballroom, or O'Shaughnessy, the incredible eating hall. We're talking pillars, hardwood floors, really glorious, beautiful interiors. You would be walking down wooded lanes, across bridges. The ballroom takes up one wing of the mansion on the first floor, really stunning. The first picture is a tiny image of the ballroom: www.smwc.edu/cgi-bin/site.pl?3208&dwContent_contentID=734Your only issue might be college girls in pyjamas trying to crash the party A few years before I went to school there, they regularly had rennaisance festivals and Costume galas, and such -- but for some reason they stopped. How I missed out!!

That ballroom looks quite beautiful! And the wooded lanes and bridges would also be lovely. Although I will not comment on the college girls in PJ's The rest of the campus pictures look like very lovely place to go to school. You must have enjoyed your time there.

I agree that ball room is beautiful! I love how open and airy it looks, I can almost picture the ladies in their lovely gowns flitting about the room, the gentlemen standing together discussing manly pursuits and the happy couples dancing down the middle of it all! Its also nice that they can provide on site catering, that is a plus. I will definitely keep that site in mind, Im not sure which state we will end up hosting it in but looking at university campus's does give us more options.
Steph- Thanks for the support! We are planning at the earliest to have the ball this fall, the ladies have actually been talking about this for some time and finally a few have stepped up to start planning. I am not expecting anything spectacular and huge for a first time event but who knows!
