Do any of you ladies like pearls? I love pearls and I'm experiencing major jewelry envy right now: I especially like how they are sewn on her bandeau. I need to mentally file that idea away for future outfit making reference. And that necklace! So pretty. Here's an interesting article about real and faux pearls in the period (featuring the painting above), from the Two Nerdy History Girls blog: twonerdyhistorygirls.blogspot.com/2011/05/roman-pearls-faux-jewels-for-18th-c.htmlIt's interesting to note how they made faux pearls. They were hollow glass beads coated with a fish scale mixture to create the pearlescence and then the beads were filled with wax to give them weight. Does anyone have any other period paintings/prints of pearls being worn?

This is very interesting. I knew they had 'costume' or sham jewelry but did not know how it was made other than colored glass beads.

What I love about this jewelry is the sparse distribution of the pearls on the necklace. It's pretty, the wide gaps of chain.
